We were told that The Maori would place the fronds on the ground, silver side up as they headed off during the day so that they could find the way home in the dark as the silver was reflective in the moonlight. Zigzagging our way across the South Island next stop was Kaikoura and Blenheim.

As the weekend saw Seafest in Kaikoura there was no room at the inn in Kaikoura so Manders soldiered on to Blenheim another 150 kms north in the car, we'd already driven about 500 kms that day! All before returning to Kaikoura again the next morning for whale watching.

Seafest looked like lots of fun as we drove through - an annual celebration of food ...
