It is promoted as a “ghost town” because it was finally deserted in the 1920-30’s after Turkey and Greece did a citizen swap where Greek-speaking Christians were moved out of muslim Turkey & vice versa. Most of the Greeks moved to mainland Greece, Kastelorizo or Australia, hence the town is now deserted. It was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1950’s which was the death knell.     ... the bus drivers. We parked in the back corner next to a park / kiddies' playground and went for a walk. Although Dalyan is clearly a tourist base it had a very positive and relaxed feel. The streets were clean and attractively designed.

    We shared a meze platter and I had my first fresh pomegranate juice. Good stuff – healthy too. When we got back to the van at about 10pm the carpark was indeed quiet – all the buses ...

    ... choice for our last evening meal. We had enjoyed other dishes but the speciality dishes requiring "slow cooking" definitely needed to be sampled. We pre – ordered a lamb dish cooked in a clay pot and Serife’s personal favourite, a chicken bake. These were supplemented by meze, a chicken cooked in an iron pan and a mince pancake.

    ... But sadly we do have to eventually drag ourselves away and get back to our loungers for an hour or so before the British Grand Prix starts at three o'clock local time.
