... hired a motor scooter now to get around town. I'll go back to the marina tomorrow to look at another boat.

The area is quite different to I imagined; not that I can think now what I imagined. The first thing that struck me driving in the bus from the Dalaman airport to Marmaris, is how quiet it is (especially after Asia). The towns, roads etc. were empty of people. The countryside is ...

Another city (Heraklion) shut down by protests, this time students against police violence. We teamed up with our kiwi posse and hired a convoy of taxis that did a few of the sights. ... contain very ornate tombs carved into the stone walls. These are Hellenistic in style and look very similar to Petra. Wealthy people and royalty were buried in such tombs. The Dalyan River is not so deep and meanders amidst the bullrushes. It is very peaceful.

We finally arrive at Caunos. This is a town from the 6th century BC. It was conquered by the Romans in the 1st century BC and remained under their ...

... corner who cooked me a very nice mince meat flat bread. Just after lunch the rain started, very heavy with loud thunder thrown in. The hotel had a power cut. They got the lifts going again fairly swiftly but wifi was out for the day. After the downpour we walked up to the old village which was much quieter but more run down. They really do have chickens in all the back yards. After our stroll we had an hour in the sun by the pool then it was waffle time. ...
