... parked up what we thought was near to the Turkmenistan embassy and had a couple of hours to spare until it opened again after lunch. So a few of us went off looking for a place to have lunch and found a pub where we discovered we really weren't in Georgia anymore with cheap food prices, it was back to normal European prices. We met back up at the truck mid afternoon when Suse informed us the Turkmenistan embassy was closed for the next two days and had actually moved to the other side ...

... quite fun camping next to the quiet blooping and blupping of the mud volcanoes, and what a difference to the previous bushcamp in the lush national park, we were now in a moonscape.

It was a very early start, we were up at 4am and left at 4.45am (we run 15 minutes early at nearly all times), seeing an amazing sunrise on the way to Baku and to get our Turkmenistan visas.

The plan was... get visas and pack for 2-5 days on the boat ...

... keep us going whilst aboard. We shared a 4 berth overnight cabin with a Dutch couple who also had grand-children, so we christened it the Granny Annexe.
Our crossing was very calm and we ladies spent an hour on top deck during the morning doing some Tai Chi moves to pass the time and enjoy the lovely sunshine.
We were all amazed to be landing in Turkmenistan by about 4pm later that day, as our cargo boat ...

... had to head back toward the old city to find something to eat, drink or do. We didn't have to but that was the plan. First we headed toward the Caspian Sea and walked along the Baku Boulevard park area, then we crossed over to the business area and entered a large shopping mall that Leo and Noel had been to yesterday. There we looked around - I tried a few sporting goods stores for a soccer shirt for Theo and Noel looked for ideas for his shopping ...

... so intrigued by my bike that he pulled right up to me and was probably only 4 inches from my bike frame, which would have been annoying if we were stationary but was worse given we were going at about 15mph in traffic. That doesn’t sound much but as there is no rear view on a bike, your awareness of things coming up behind you is alot less than in a car, so it is quite easy to not realise who is around you.....
