... able to catch up with some stories from the other loolas that are going this trip also. Ger put on his swimming trunks and went for a splash in the Black Sea, but no sooner was he in the water he was back out was too salty !

... parked up what we thought was near to the Turkmenistan embassy and had a couple of hours to spare until it opened again after lunch. So a few of us went off looking for a place to have lunch and found a pub where we discovered we really weren't in Georgia anymore with cheap food prices, it was back to normal European prices. We met back up at the truck mid afternoon when Suse informed us the Turkmenistan embassy was closed for the next two days and had actually moved to the other side ...

... book which is a humerous guide to overlanding which says that you should not get too hung up with hand washing... it is hard, clean underwear is very important. At every hotel there will either be a notice telling us about the hotel's laundry service, or there will be handwashing strung up across rooms and balconies. I am getting better at it, and far better than I was 12 years ago when I backpacked around Europe. Anyway, back to the trip...

From the market, we walked to a modern supermarket where Tony bought some Azeri brandy. We stopped at the Sharma restaurant on the corner, recommended by Nick, and had some tea, coffee, etc. Then on to the hotel to unload our purchases - heavy items they were - before heading out to the city center. I wanted to take some photos of Fountain Square ...

... on heading to Baku via the more Northerly looking of the two choices from Tbilisi. Both looked like motorways on the map and given I was covering nearly 600kms today, I thought it best to utlise the better & quicker roads. Well silly old me..... though the first 50km of roads in Azerbaijan were fast single lane roads, bordered by an avenue of cooling trees, this was only lulling me into a false sense of security. In fact it wasn’t to become a dual carriage for another ...
