A slight diversion

Maybe following Lucys advice about beer und soft men?

By the way, what is with the German men and their mullets. I haven't see hair that flamboyant since my brother in law pitched up at the Binnies wedding (circa early 90s) looking like a Bay City Rollers tribute band.

Back to London

... to see the sun rise over the Irish Sea...but I think i would have appreciated the sleep more!

It was off the boat at Liverpool, where I had 3 1/2 hours to get to the bus station. It took me about 45 minutes to get there (including a stop for a cornish pasty for breakfast) but i was so knackered that I couldn't be ***** looking around, so I just killed the time in the bus station. 5 1/2 hours on the bus, then about 50 minutes on the tube and I was back home!

Sightseeing around the southern part of the island

Today was more about sightseeing, as there wasn't much on in the way of racing or practices.

I decided to walk down to Douglas and along the promenade, and the weather was pretty good. A lot of the buildings along the waterfront in Douglas look very similar, and many of them are bed and breakfasts or lodges etc, which much do a roaring trade at this time of year. The population of the Isle of Man is around 75,000, but during TT week an additional 45,000 people ...

Watching racing around Douglas

... It was a historic race win for Michael Dunlop, who's uncle was the most successful IoM TT racer in history, and who's father is also a past winner.

Later in the afternoon I watched the start of the sidecar race from Quarterbridge, about a 20 minute walk from where I was staying. The race was cut short however, as on the opening lap one of the sidecars crashed on a pretty fast part of the track. At first it was a worrying time, as the race was red flagged, and it was some time ...

Over to Ramsey for my first day of racing.

... race from was a tight right hander into a more open left as they built up speed. I saw one near collision between two of the bikes midway through the right hander, in an overtaking manoeuvre gone bad, and another rider nearly came off after hitting the curb on the fast exit of the left hander. Unfortunately, a Kiwi rider, Bruce Anstey, who was leading the race by a decent margin, bowed out with ...

A bleak winter's evening in Douglas

... check out http://www.ballaafrica.org.uk/ for more details) and we're going to Danville for two weeks, working with an orphanage and a primary school. After this period, I plan to take up work full time, raise as much money as I can until Christmas time, when I plan to take my girlfriend to Greece for a week. Then over the following months, I hope to travel, return to work and repeat as much as possible. So far I have; e ...

Isle of Man - my new home away from home

After my last entry in Liverpool, I went back to the hostel for dinner, where I met Rachel (from Wales) and Melissa (from New Zealand) - two girls who had met a month ago while travelling. They were super friendly and invited me to have a drink and play pool with them, which we did! During a fresh air / cigarette break, we were standing outside the hostel when an obviously drunk man with a beer under his arm approached us. He introduced himself as George and ...

The Isle of Man

Following in Cav's cycletracks...

... it down all the way back on the tram to Douglas. But the one consolation was looking at the hilly roads beside us that we didn't have to clamber our way up. We all agreed that if we'd tried to cycle around the island the other way, we wouldn't have made it past a couple of miles! Back at hostel I cleaned up my war ...
