... public and private lives. The garden area was beautiful, and extended up the hill into dense forest.

Unfortunately, the Matsue History Museum was closed today, so after crossing the Kitasomon Bridge, which is the gateway to the castle, reconstructed in 1994 as a duplicate of the original wooden bridge from the Edo era, we took ourselves off for a leisurely lunch and an early day to get ready for our trip tomorrow, when we get the bus to Osaka.

... house overlooking a beautiful garden - felt like we were back in time in the old, traditional Japan.

After catching japanese birds on the camera we stopped at one of Matsue's sweet / souvenir shops - where every item looked so unfamiliar, we have never felt so strange in the sweet shop before!
We have obviously bought few items including tea made of a cherry blossom!

... their questions in English and had to judge their presentations of Japanese culture. After period 4 we had a school lunch of milk, fish, nut salad, egg soup and bread with chocolate spread. Then we sent the kids off to socialise with the kashima students. They were treated like celebrities! After lunch we headed off to a small barn to do some pottery. This morning after a quick trip to the post office to stock up on some money we caught the Lakeline bus to the castle. The bus was a very cute old fashioned tram. The castle was incredible.
