Met up with Ivan, he is from Serbia and is travelling with another Serb guy, Zoran. Zoran is recently married to an Albanian girl, Juliana. She lives just outside Durres. We spent the day doing the touristy thing around Durres, the plan was to get some beach time in but the weather wasn't good.

Spent the night at Juliana's parents house. Its in a village outside the morning her father takes the pet cow for a walk.....

... leke to drive us to Kruja. Having no idea how far Kruja is but knowing how cheap taxis are in Albania, I shook my head. Mom and I walked further uphill, then popped into a travel agency to ask for directions. The young woman working there spoke English and informed us it’s about a 20-minute drive up to Kruja. • Further south, between Berat and Butrint, there was nicer coastline (though some of it is still not public as its reserved for government - used to be more).
    • Swim & eat stop at private little beach area - almost all abandoned due to season ending, but they managed to put together some yummy (but not cheap) food for us and it was a great spot for a swim.

We had a few stresses when cars came straight at us. Because of the potholes people often drive on the wrong side of the road to get around them, not fun for Kiwi passengers!
We finally arrived in Berat around 5pm and walked to the backpackers. Luckily they had beds available so we dumped our ...

... it by the cup full.

Berat: Only about 2 hours from Sarande. It is a UNESCO listed town - very nice old town situated inland between a valley. They have a thing called 'giro' at night. Basically at 7 pm all the locals walk down the main street. The girls do themselves up something crazy like they are out on the town wearing some pretty revealing clothes and the guys sit in coffee shops and watch as they parade up and down the street. Sounds creepy ...
