    ... small serpentine streets in the mountains which are not only used by cars but also by pedestrians, dogs, cows, donkeys and goats and in which might be every now and then a big whole.

    ... leke to drive us to Kruja. Having no idea how far Kruja is but knowing how cheap taxis are in Albania, I shook my head. Mom and I walked further uphill, then popped into a travel agency to ask for directions. The young woman working there spoke English and informed us it’s about a 20-minute drive up to Kruja. Whoa, that far? She said there’s no need to take a taxi; there are local furgons that run uphill every so often, so just wait curbside and flag one down. ...

  • Only one main road through the country because private cars only in Albania since end of communism.
  • Bunkers all through countryside because Enver (communist leader) told everyone Greece was invading.
    • Nice people - not much English except tourist restaurants.

    ... pile it sky-high along with putting the four of us on the back seat which was actually only 3 seats! Unbelievably the roads here were worse still so it wasn't the best drive. We had a few stresses when cars came straight at us. Because of the potholes people often drive on the wrong side of the road to get around them, not fun for Kiwi passengers!

    ... pretty cool Roman ruins. Best thing we saw was 'the Blue Eye'. It’s a place where water pumps out of the ground at about 8 cubic meters per second. You can jump into the hole and the water is about 10 degrees so it’s an awesome shock when you hit the water, the water is sooo fresh- it’s coming directly from an aquifer underground.
