Jon and I have a new deal. I plan a trip and drive, and he'll go anywhere. He'll even drive us home. One of the perks of subbing, I'm left with pockets of time to come up with trips. Trip number one, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, mostly because it fell neatly within the day trip range.

Part of our deal means I drive . . . The morning greeted us with a pea soup fog, enough to hide all road signs from any meaningful distance. GPS is good. I did drive fast ...
Rothenberg Ob Der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany wilwayco... to my hotel. Now I know why they call it LUGgage. After settling into my room, I headed out to take the "Night Watchman Tour". The tour was only an hour, but it was informative and the Watchman was humorous as well. After the tour, I went To Hell, yes that is the restaurant's name, for dinner. FYI, they serve good food in Hell. So the next time someone tells you to "go to Hell", it may very well be a good suggestion!
Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany trockieGuten tag from Germany!

We've been all over Europe, to random places like Bosnia and Slovakia, but we've never managed to make it to Germany. So here we are!

We flew through Iceland, and landed in Frankfurt yesterday. We picked up our very cute Smart Car convertible, and drove out west to the famous Romantic Road. This is a 220 mile long stretch of road running south that is dotted with castles and medieval towns. We stayed the night in ...
Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, Germany sql_spiceThey Said:

Even if for only one damp and chilly night, we finally got to see another city in Bavaria. Nuremberg is mostly a bombed out shell of its former self, redone since the war with more modern style architecture but still retaining the city's original mapping. This means tons of streets that are pedestrian only, and for the most part, this is how we enjoyed the city – simply by walking its ...
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany the_stamms... remove it from the mold and lay a portion on a flat surface (to produce the flat side to sit in on a table), let it harden (which doesn’t take much time, then add the handle. In this case, the handle was red glass, which is the hardest to work with because it takes the highest temperature to keep it soft. Once one side of the handle is attached to the base, they have to reheat the red glass to re-soften it for molding. Once it is soft enough to mold, they use a metal bar to shape ...
Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany ab10Today, we went to a spa in town, and I have never seen so many Speedos in my entire life.

I hope I never see another Speedo ever again.

The salt baths were really awesome, and the sauna was cool too, but it got SOOO hot so fast.
There is really nothing to do here. I cannot wait to get out of here. Tomorrow, we head to Freiburg, to have a tour of some castles, so that ...
Bad Windsheim, Bavaria, Germany tbuquicchio... confined. Commemorating 9 November 1939 means remembering the darkest chapter of German history, bringing to mind a disruption of civilization **********ceivable nowadays. With deep sorrow, horror and shame we look back at the crime against the Jewish citizens of Windsheim and against humanity. To deal with our history is arduous and more than painful- yet it is necessary. Retrospection shows us what racial hatred leads to ...
Bad Windsheim, Germany kitchenshrink... with fixed wing aircraft. Ken debriefed me back in his office where I looked over the walls of his previous flights: Bill Clinton and Peter Jennings in Normandy, Iraq, and too many other beautiful pictures to mention. He is a man with a passion for flying and it was a pleasure to share the cockpit with him that morning. Two weekends ago the town of Bad Windsheim remembered Kristallnacht - The Night of Broken Glass. Jews traveled from around the world to return to ...
Bad Windsheim, Germany kitchenshrink... the soldiers have recently returned from Iraq and now they and their families are reintegrating. I've been called daily to be a witness to their crises as they work at rebuilding their lives, in relationships between couples that are struggling to find each other again or who are ready to call an end to a relationship that no longer exists. The work, as usual, is emotional and satisfying. I've also reconnected to Doc and hope to help him celebrate his birthday in a ...
Bad Windsheim, Germany kitchenshrink... are in the first night they were in Germany. And that was the end of that conversation. We said our pleasant goodbyes and he was off. But that wouldn't be the last time we would meet on the streets of this little town. I saw him again on my way back, he waved and smiled. Light was beginning to run out and my shutter finger was itching to do some clicking. I had to pick a street that looked interesting to ride down and do it ...
