... he gave me the following morning, he also provided a number of useful tips and telephone numbers for the places on the route I've yet to visit. One last thing about Pilgrim Pete - for that is his radio monicker - is that he arrived at The Great St Bernard's Pass behind a slow plough on the 28th May, two days after the Pass officially opened this year. It certainly validates my decision to wait until the start of June to begin my journey.

... northern France.

As the chapels all but disappeared from sight as I moved further eastward, water fountains started to appear in the villages where previously I'd seen none. One day, on the road to Bapaume (after Arras) a lady who had invited me into her home to replenish my water bottle provided a plausible explanation as to why this is the case. I went for an awesome run along side the lake yesterday and got to people watch a little. The lake is crystal clear and massive, Neuchatel is a beautiful city to walk around. I found my way to the clothing shopping alleys and walked around a little, observing young fashion ...
