... both questioned what type of meat it was (didn't really understand the German menu) but he scarfed it down anyway. Afterward we decided to look it up, thinking it might have been liver (the only word we recognized in the menu was "wurst"). Luckily it ended up just being a sort of Vietnamese pork sausage, so Jonathan was able to relax. The idea of liver grossed him out just a bit. After lunch it was on to the Heidelberg castle that sits just above the downtown area. ...

... markets in Germany. Lastly we shared an order of tartiflette. It had caught our eye every time we walked past it so we decided to finally give it a try. Among its many ingredients it has sliced potatoes, parsley, several cheeses, bacon, butter, and other deliciousness. It's cooked in a massive metal bowl over fire and it was incredible! I highly recommend Karlsruhe as a really nice, relaxed place to visit (not just because of the pizza) and somewhere that is a nice mix of big city and the calmness of a town. ... hard to resist so I didn’t! And the wurst was rather good.

Returning to the Rhein valley and it was obvious that the narrow picturesque charm was now an open sprawling plain and the journey was more agricultural / suburban. The journey also featured near motorway and closed roads. The latter making the GPS work a bit harder.
However I reached the planned destination about 2pm so decided to see if it was worth pushing on. ...
