... of the snow capped mountains behind the town, and the best view of the Mole Antonelliana. The church was simple and small when inside and people were leaving from Mass just finished when we got there. We took the short cut down the leafy hill to find a place for lunch, the rolls and salami we had bought from a supermarket for a total of €1.70 for all three of us.
The last stop was to see of course the Shroud of Turin. A centuries old linen cloth that has the image of ...

... chunk of the historical district has been torn down and turned into parking lots--right in the middle of town, leaving just a couple of semi-abandoned buildings. Seems a big odd... normally Italian cities are obsessed with preserving their historical buildings... Sorry, Asti, I'd like to spend more time with you, but I've gotta ...

I get off the train just as high school students get out for lunch break and join a crowd of them in a doner shop for a sandwich shop. Nice town to wander around in, with part of the city up on a ridge, with some castle like homes... and yes, you can buy a bra in Bra, in case you were ...

Day 294 3 hrs, 1.7 kms Now it's time to head east completing my Piedmont loop. I've still got two more provinces to do, but I should still be able to squeeze a couple towns along the way. My first stop, Cavallomaggiore is a small town with lots and lots of churches... several in each block. I stop in a shop and the shopkeeper gets to chatting with me and I ask her about it. "People are quite religious here" she goes on to tell me about the religious trips she has gone ...

... my attention. It runs diagonally through the city, lined with pleasant portico. There's a plaque that explains: one ruler decided thought this part of town was getting a bit run down, so he had the whole neighborhood demolished and a grand boulevard built to run through it. Not sure quite how to feel about that. Overall, I like this city. It's not going to make my Top Ten or even Top Twenty Italian cities... but definitely a worthwhile place to ...
