From Takasaki, we went back in time and caught at steam engine/diesel engine train to Yokokawa. The front end was diesel and the back end was the steam engine, sort of a "pull me, push you". This was reversed on the way back. The carriages were rustic and certainly drew a lot of attention. This section took 58 minutes. The tinkle lady came around and we had some apple ice cream, although Lynne preferred the vanilla one.

Hi, We had a very exciting journey on the bullet train to Kyoto. It was amazingly smooth and comfortable, as you couldn't feel the high speeds at all.
