Historical Traveler Reviews of Arrandale Hotel Douglas

Arrandale - a must!

from Barry_Phillips
Myself and 10 other Motorcycle Riders stayed at the Arrandale for 5 Days.

Rose & Theo (Hotel Owners) are wonderful friendly and helpful people.

The hotel is ideally situated, rooms are clean and cosy. We didn't eat at the Hotel in the evenings (other things planned) but the food looked excellent and the breakfasts were perfect!

Free WiFi internet access was extremely helpful too...

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and for my first time on the Island it was a great experience.

I would DEFINATELY stay at the Arrandale again.

Everything perfect

Atmosphere, customer service, food, accommodation was all spot on. I couldn't fault anything and will not only recommend to all but will be returning.

The location is also easy to find and handy for all areas.

Very nice short stay

My wife and I stayed here over easter.Owners very friendly and caring ,room clean, but quite small. This also is not a hotel in the true sense of the word it.s a guest house. The food was fantastic.Unfortunately the location although close to the beach and prom it is halfway up a very steep hill and people with mobility problems will find it very difficult. Also there is no lift in the guest house. But all in all we found it good value for money and an ideal base for travelling around the isle.

Excellent!

We stayed at Arrandale Apartments for 6 days in January 2007. We thoroughly enjoyed the tranquil location and the use of an apartment with all the required furnishing and appliances.

Subsequently we stayed at the Arrandale Hotel for 6 days in February 2007. We enjoyed superb hospitality. The owers, Theo and Rose, go out of their way to serve!

Friendliest place I ever stayed (and great breakfast too!)

Stayed at the Arrandale hotel in Douglas with my wife for a relaxing break in the Isle of Man last September. After going through lists of different guesthouses and hotels we decided on the Arrandale guesthouse, located in a very nice garden square.

We decided to travel by ferry using the Isle of Man Steampacket service and booked as foot passengers (around £17 one-way if I remember correctly). The crossing was very pleasant and took less than 3 hours. Upon arrival in Douglas we took a taxi to the Arrandale which turned out less than 5 minutes away. The taxidriver told us that the Arrandale had a very good reputation. Booking a guesthouse is always a bit tricky, not knowing where you will end up but I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised! The prorietors and staff were very friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble. We asked for a room with a view and were given a room on the top (3rd) floor. There is no lift in the building so it is a bit of a climb (not too bad though) but the view from our room made it worth it! It was fantastic! We could see the whole of Douglas Bay (from Onchan Head to Douglas Head) and the Promenade. We could see the ferries coming in and going out etc. The hotel offers an excellent cooked English breakfast (one of the best I have ever had) and it was all served within a few minutes of taking our order. I have stayed in 4 star hotels where the cooked breakfast was of a far lesser quality and had to wait 30 minutes for it. Our room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable and we had a very pleasant and relaxing stay. We will definitely stay there again.

Almost forgot, the Arrandale offers free wifi and a broadband computer also free of charge which was useful for us to check our email.

The Isle of Man is a beautiful place to go and relax for a few days and if you are thinking of going, I hope this review of the Arrandale is of help to you.

Great place to chill out!

Set in a square about 7 mins walk (up a hill) from the promenade, with good views from many rooms of Douglas Bay. Little passing traffic, so good for children and those wanting a quiet night's sleep.

The owners were very hospitable and friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them. The cost of the accommodation was reasonable.

I particularly appreciated the (free) Internet access in the lounge plus WiFi - although on holiday, it was helpful to keep in touch with developments back home and monitor emails.

I was pleased to be offered Manx Kippers for breakfast and also had an excellent evening meal at the hotel. Would I return? Yes!

Friendly

We booked in to the arrandale in July, we booked a couple of rooms, one was bigger than the other, and we had good seaviews. Although we found the accommodation to be good, we would not call this a hotel, this is really a guesthouse/BB, we found the name a liitle misleading, as it is not a hotel, the owners, staff were very friendly, advised on places to go etc, please note there is no lift in the arrandale, so if you are booking ask for a lower floor, as there is lots of stairs. Also the breakfast room is where evening meals are served too, also the bar area which is located in the breakfast room is quite small. Overall it was good accommodation and nice people, but is not a hotel.

What a friendly place

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed for short break, found the owners very friendly and welcoming, very heplful with advice on places to go etc. Our room, although a little on the small side, had everything in it that we could want - extra pillows for my back problem appeared as soon as we asked! Nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Great shower. Breakfast choice was better than you usually get in most B&BS, with plenty of fruit, yoghurts etc along with a great fry-up. Would certainly stay here again.

Price of batteries

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was charged £6.00 for four aa batteries for my baby monitor,i spent £200 on rooms, this was over charged.
