I did eventually stay another night in Biarritz, not because of too many beers but more because of the heat! I'd forgotten to pull the blinds across and it was like a sauna when I got back - lesson learned there..
Looking south beyond Biarritz in the distance the skyline gets very lumpy. It's the start of the Pyrenees and the first big Mountain is La Rhune at 905metres (about 3000ft). It's been pretty flat for the last 2 weeks so I decided I must climb ...

... still quite cheap and yummy. We scoffed that sat on a park bench watching the world go by and then called it a day and went back to our room. Friday April 10th Went back into San Sebastián, we'd slipped up with our hotel choice as it was a quarter hour drive out of town and it wasn't the easiest road network to negotiate. ... incredibly beautiful. A volunteer guide took us round, showed us all the fancy bits, explained some of the traditions in Spanish Catholicism. It was cool. Then we went to the Pilar, which is the main church that the festival's activities is around. That was massively grand, lots of people there for the festival. We’re staying in two Parador hotels and one country house and one hotel in Bilbao where we are also going to see Eider. We fully embraced some of the art, notably a fascinating permanent exhibit by Richard Serra called "The Matter of Time" that involves a series of massive steel torqued spirals and ellipses (the math involved is beyond my comprehension) that viewers walk through, apparently to facilitate their contemplation of time and space.
