Wine tour and leaving Cape Town

... coastal villages - nice and chilled. Held up on the way back by 100's of sheep in the road with the 'farmers' trying their best to move them along. An amusing moment as you will see!
After a couple of days chilling at Cape Agulhas we headed for Mossel Bay - but were advised to stop off at a bar on the R62 called Ronnies Sex Shop. A cool little bar off the main highway. It was called Ronnies Shop for a few years when he first opened it until some friends wrote the word ...

To Cape Aguilas from Gordon's Bay

... of old and new. The main theme here is whales, Southern Right Whales, to be exact. A short walk out to a very nice park right on the edge of the Atlantic brought the theme to reality. We saw at least 15 individual whales playing within a half mile off shore. Some brave souls were in sea kayaks and the whales amazingly swam up to them and remain in very close proximity for quite a long time. There were people leaning over ...

... dire fate. We were lucky to be assigned to the only remaining bus actually used to transport prisoners - and we started the tour. The tour guide told us a story about how other buses were purchased when the island first became a museum, but only this original bus was still working. The bus took us around the island and we learned a bit about it's history. It had first served as an institution for the mentally ill and ...

... and islets off the coast. Our drive brought us to the beginning of the national park. Here our day really took off - literally. We jumped on our mountain bikes and cruised along the Atlantic side of the coast passing ostriches and stopping to play in the surf and the rocks. We ditched our bikes and took to the trail where we hiked to the point where the Indian Ocean crashes into the Atlantic. Wow! We even got treated to a show where ...

Like a Rolling Stone...

... hill past this big sign in Afrikaans Groot-Berg (pronounced Grew it- Brrr Hacking noise)... whatever I just kept running and after about a kilometer I was still running up... then walking up... then crawling... I turned to the guy next to me and asked... what did that sign say Do Not Enter? He says no... Really Big Hill... at that point I would rather have not known; we went up that hill for about 3ks ... it hurt!!   But when I finished Sarah and the wine were there ...

The End of the World, Well, Africa Any Way

... had to do to get there was bum a ride from an English girl, and a Czech brother and sister in their rental car. The Cape of Good Hope (also known by the less optimistic name - Cape of Storms) lies on the end of the Cape Point Peninsula starching south of Cape Town. Its place in history, in the quest to reach India, conquer and colonize Africa, and the world's economic fortunes has been clearly defined for ages. Many times, it was also, though erroneously ...

The Southernmost tip of the Continent

... to drizzle slightly, this was the only bad weather we were to encounter the whole week. From Tuesday onwards, the weather was superb, although we heard later in the week from Keith's mother that in Cape Town it had been raining continuously for 4 days. We were to outrun the bad weather front that swept into the Western Cape, where it remained for the whole week and it was only on Sunday at the end of our week off that we drove back towards Cape Town and were met by rain, a ...

Geographical end of the African Continent

... Well known families settled as pioneers in the southern coastal area, as did shipwreck survivors of various nationalities. It is believed that this blending of cultures accounts for the hospitality and sincerity of the people of the Overberg. The weather deteriorated somewhat so that by the time we reached Bredasdorp, it was raining quite ********e of the first cities in the area, Bredasdorp, was founded in 1838. ... the cage when one's around. Visibility v poor in the water (about a meter and a half) and was runnning out of breath when suddenly this f*cking massive shark comes out of nowhere and headbutts the cage, has a little nibble of the bars, and swims off in a huff! I very nearly needed a change of wetsuit after that. In total saw six big sharks, so well worth it - although that first experience was the best.
