    ... They had a beautiful shop, nursery and farm produce shop, similar to Chatsworth bit on a smaller scale. It is worth a visit. It is close to the lovely little village of Kenton.     ... on his Grand Tour in the 18th century. There are paintings by Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian, Brueghel and the largest individual collection of Egyptian antiques in the world. They were clearly a very wealthy family! Their money came from a graphite mine in Cumbria. Apparently graphite was used to make gunpowder and there were only two graphite deposits in Europe. The family received cash royalties per ton from the mine operators so were rolling in cash! ...
