We´ve arrived! It´s now the end of our first day here. We´re tired, but it´s beautiful. A late night flight plus a timezone change means that we´ve only gotten a couple hours sleep, so this is going to be a quick post. Today was pretty cold--the weather says it´s going to be coldest day while we´re here, and also the windiest. We had hoped to go whale watching, but it was too windy to go out, so we´re going to try and make it tomorrow. Instead we wandered around the city centre. It´s an inter...
Reykjavík, Iceland chelsea2008(About Wednesday, Oct 22, written on Oct 27) So as you can see I'm a little behind in blogging about our trip. Don't worry family, we're just too busy having fun. We woke up to some pretty grim weather this morning. Usually, the breakfast room's 360 windows gives us an amazing view of the harbour. Today the view was a pretty white one! It was snowing but the winds were strong enough to make it look like it was blizzarding. Over breakfast we discussed what we might do instead of our planned So...

Reykjavík, Iceland cariverga... worth the price of admission for any food lover.

*the title is just meant to be an amusing mesh of the stunning beauty of Reykjavik, and the absolute crushing destruction of it's banking system. There is nothing at all disastrous about Reykjavik, or any of Iceland for that matter. I guess I could have avoided this by changing the title, but it sounds cool, and that seems more important somehow, at least aesthetically.

Reykjavik, Iceland wisconsin_fan81... there to soak in the warm water (a great contrast to the cold air) and rub this mud all over themselves to benefit their skin. There's a spa and several lounge areas - it's very built up but it doesn't feel touristy or overcrowded. We had fun wading through the lagoon and, of course, getting into mud fights. We spent a few hours in and out of the water, ate lunch (Icelandic hot dogs and Viking beer...yum ...
Reykjavík, Iceland melanieandjames... was ****** off as our tour guide said "Although very faint, clearly we saw the northern lights tonight." Methinks this was their way of getting out of refunding four bus loads of people 70% of their money. But as we are heading back, and midnight approaches, the right side of the bus could see the northern lights. The bus pulls over in the middle of nowhere and everyone gets out in the street. We saw the ...
Reykjavík, Iceland dc314... warned, finding anywhere for dinner was pretty hopeless so we picked up the best selection that the 10-11 (think 7-11) had to offer and we made a home dinner at the Little House on Main. We did all right actually, Margherita pizza and Bruschetta with green salad - try finding that at 7-11. We also turned out to be just a couple of blocks ...
Reykjavík, Iceland marymac442... later so it could land and manged to get through, and we managed to leave at 1.30, and still the Iceland Air people waited..... Overall what a amazing different place! Like nothing we have seen before, very Barron and rocky and very pretty with the snow, more snow than either of us have ever seen, we got back to London and they predicated snow for the next day, I was really hoping not, I have seen enough snow to last me for ages!!! It never did snow thankfully :-)
Reykjavík, Iceland giovanna... rowed there in year dot. I might get slated for saying this but there is not much to see and do in the city. Funnily enough we spotted 3 Irish Pubs (one called the Dubliner) within 5 mins walk from each other. We settled on one called Kelly's and had one drink. It really was a case of "My Goodness, My Guiness"... as the price of a pint as Christy would say was about £8. Fine if you are earning the national average of about ...
Reykjavík, Iceland leonnatmckenna... country but our bus hit several secondary roads too. These brought us to the last stop of the tour, the phenomenal geysirs. Here lies Geysir, the largely dormant geysir from which all other geysirs take their name. Sister geysir Strokkur obligingly exploded into action 15 metres into the air every 5 or 6 minutes. We were ...
