      Good place in Reykjavik

Very central location, within walking distance of the main streets and of the harbour. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, no matter what time of day or night. They were all very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions we might have and give advice and help arranging tours. There is a great view from the Sky Lounge and you can get reasonably priced drinks and light snacks, plus a fairly basic but reasonable buffet breakfast. The only downside of the hotel from our point of view was the lack of storage space in the room, just a couple of small shelves and a few hangers on an open rail. We prefer to be able to unpack properly but, in this case, had to live out of a suitcase.

Blue Moon! (Sorry, I mean Blue Lagoon!!)

Another early start, yawn, yawn hotel pick-up at 8.30am to the bus station and we were on the bus to Blue Lagoon and on our way by soon after 9 am. The weather was cold and sleety and it was hard to get enthusiastic about the idea of stripping down to swimmers and going outside into the howling gales, no matter how warm the water was claimed to be …

We leapt out of bed at 7am, shower, breakfast and ready for an 8.30am pickup for our Golden Circle tour. The initial organisation was a complete nightmare as we attempted to get ourselves onto a coach, the correct coach, ANY coach! Eventually we were on board and seated and after that things improved considerably. We had a good driver and a …

The room was warm and the bed was comfortable but still I didn't sleep all that well for some reason. Looking out we saw that it had snowed overnight and was, thankfully, dry and a bit clearer.

We went up to the 8th Floor for breakfast in the Sky Lounge and there are indeed some beautiful views across the city from up there. We knew that …

      Off to Iceland!

Off to Gatwick for our first time trip to Iceland. We were travelling by IcelandAir and had treated ourselves to a trip in Saga Class, their version of business class. We boarded more or less on time but, for various reasons, ended up sitting on the tarmac for more than two hours before getting away. A bit boring, especially as we didn't even get a …

... road - which we found out later was labeled for 4 wheel drives only - and was not permitted by our rental car agency... Beautiful scenery and fabulous views of Iceland's second largest glacier - no pics though as we were mostly preoccupied with finding our way off of the road!! Finally we arrived at our first place!! A small cottage on the side of a lake, under a glacier - ...
