    Honfleur, France

A travel blog entry by robin_frank on Aug 28, 2015

The most important thing about today is the weather: SUNNY! with cool temps, a perfect day for our all-day trip to Honfleur. It sits near the mouth of the Seine as it empties into the English Channel (La Manche). It is billed as a terminally cute town, with narrow 17thC. houses lining the harbor. It was only an hour+ journey and we arrived by 11AM, found cheap parking as advised by our guidebook, and walking into town past the docked riverboats. The town consisted of the ...

... a heart attack (kids, ask for story). On the way back we stopped at a supermarket for snacks. I would love to live in a place where you can buy a still-warm chocolate croissant for 40c! How do French women not get fat??? For dinner we went to the brasserie around the corner and oh, dear, more puffy pastry. The entree was a big puff filled with camembert with a brown sauce over it. It looked like dessert, but it wasn't sweet. Frank and I both had chicken with cider ...

There are a ridiculous number of them in France, and while they are truly amazing buildings, there is a certain sameness. I can't help but think of the money that it cost to build them and how many peasants starved after tithes were extracted from them. We are now in a hotel in the heart of Rouen, ...

Next day we stopped by a lovely lake at Naussac 24th a sign saying limited stay to 15 minutes but stayed 15 hours then on to Langogne ...

... a little one bedroom condo that will suit us great for the next 7 days as a base of exploration.

Tonight we picnicked in our house. Wine, bread, cheese, meats, a perfect dinner listening to the rain, and Dayna is making frequent trips to the laundry room to see if the washer and dryer are available. With only one washer and one dryer, it will be late before we ...
