... I think the oldest building I've ever been in - it was built in 30 AD (that's a 2 digit year, not a typo)
Castelvechio was also pretty cool and had some great art inside.
Stopped at Osteria Verona in the main square for some predinner drinks and had some awesome house wine before going to La Taverna Di Via Stella for dinner. Really nice place with friendly staff and great food. Had ...
... of undying love to each other. Makes for quite a sight really. There were nice markets there and a sort of mini colosseum which is still used today for concerts.
There was also a statue of Juliet which is meant to bring you good luck if you rub her right breast. Her right breast is very polished!
Jumped back on the coach to the next stop!
I can't believe I've been in Italy for over two months now! It feels like much, much longer. How can so much happen in such a short amount of time? So let's see...the week after Barcelona, we carved pumpkins. Usually Italians just eat the pumpkins, so to have a jack-o-lantern was a novel thing. I asked the boys if they would like to help gut the pumpkins, but they were too grossed out by the slimy-ness (sliminess?) so I did them myself. They took them to ...
Vicenza, Veneto, Italy alliemarie... is. This looks like a miniature Colosseum. I felt like a coffee but Greg didn't so Tara and I went into a caffe/patisserie and I ordered a caffe latte, not realising that that was actually an espresso with a very small amount of milk- it was nice, but didn’t take long to drink.
We couldn’t believe how many people were out and about. All of the shops were open and the streets were crowded which is something ...
... ants nest. not the best pitch we have ever had. We spend the first day lounging by the lake, this part of the lake is dirty and nothing like the romantic picturesque images we were looking forward to. nevertheless it was relaxing the food was good and the beer was cold.
what more could I ask for?
a pitch in the shade away from the ants and the children, too much to ask?
... we were going to use 2 houses, the girls all in one and the boys in the other. Because we were late with train delays we had a lovely lunch and then relaxed and I watched a movie called Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Then we went off to see some of Verona. Verona is a really nice city with lots of amazing and beautiful buildings as well as a huge square filled with restaurants and people playing really nice music. Then we went off to a very quick ...
Verona, Veneto, Italy chalmersfamily... mezzelune (half moon) pasta filled with truffles and saffron sauce.
That evening Stefania, Claudia, Roberto (a friend of Claudia's) and I head for a tango festival at Fivizzano about 250kms away across the other side of Italy (near Cinque Terre). We will be staying at an Agriturismo near Fivizzano and we get hopelessly lost trying to find it at night - the area is a maze of small, narrow roads and there is no sign for the Agriturismo. Roberto rings several times to ...
... course meal at the same trattoria we went to last time - and it was just as good as we remembered. The best thing was that we appeared to be the only non-Italians in the restaurant, and it was packed full with groups of people making lots of noise and all dressed up quite flash - we were pleased we had our glad-rags on! On Sunday we decided to head to Lake Garda - the visitor information place recommended the pretty little lakeside town of Malcesine, only an ...
Verona, Italy aliandcam... Ches had fallen in love with this little walled town. We arrived around 6.00 pm, parked in the vast piazza, and just strolled the streets. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a restaurant to justify staying for dinner. We did discover one of the best Gelataria in Italy, right on the Piazza, and sat in the loggia, (with teenagers everywhere around us, just hanging out), and enjoyed the best gelato yet. On the way home, we decided to actually drive through the ...
