About a week ago Jim had an accident, he fell off or onto his seat and hurt his back (?). At first it was not a problem but in the last couple of days it has become increasingly painful so we are resting at a very nice site with ensuite bathroom in Cairns. He went to the doctor (saw one within 15 minutes of requesting a consultation) and has been given strong painkillers which, so ...

It has to be one of the best/most worrying things I've seen since I've been here. ... did a huge circuit of the entire Atherton Tableland and good old directionally challenged me isn't quite sure where we all went. Time to consult the map he gave us and see if I can piece this back together. We started out heading north out of Cairns, passing the little village of Kuranda where a lot of the other tours went. Our first stop was the Kuranda Rainforestation Wildlife Park. We were basically the first people to arrive and had the place almost to ourselves. ...

... looking for cabs, and then, a small miracle: an available taxi drove by and actually stopped for us. Halleluiah. The slushies soon made everyone forget the Abell-Doh boot camp.

Dec. 31, was our last big activity day here – our trip to the Great Barrier Reef. We started our walk to the wharf early, and as we got closer to the marina we were joined by more and more people taking similar day trips. We found our boat – one ...
