    ... the fact that is 35 degrees and the seats are plastic. So I settle down waving them goodbye. This part of the haul is 266km and 5 hours long which in modern day standards is not the fastest train but rattles along ok and stops at around 44 stations that have seen better days, basically they are just villages that connect communities together which I think is great, if only the government would invest in a bit of newer rolling stock perhaps?     ... like stock. Quick rewrite of the script. Soup is now on the menu. However it is a bit thin. No problem. Tip in a couple of portions of chicken fricassee. And the tatties and the broccoli. Then simmer for a while. Add pepper to taste. Despite its rather unplanned nature it was very tasty indeed. There was no need in the end to add the emergency A&B Roll to make it edible, which was the 'if all else fails' plan. And so tomorrow off to Germany. It will be strange shopping ...

    ... We chose the Pergola, for no other reason that they had a German menu on display and the prices looked reasonable. It turns out they had an English menu too, and the food was outstanding. I had some traditional sausage and egg soup (excellent), followed by pork and asparagus with mushroom sauce (done to perfection).
