... The Older church is no longer used but well maintained. It has exposed original mosaic flooring in places and frescos cove parts of the walls,. Some of these are in fairly good condition. There is a large wooden cross on one wall with somewhere below it where the locals can light a candle. It turns out that this is the Baptistry of the Newer church. The newer church next door is very ornate. A man is playing the organ so we do not take any photos or stay long. The TD ...

until about 1 am. Back in Canada if someone is awake later than

We then joined the throngs waiting to go inside the Duomo, despite it being quite a warm day I had decided to bring a small jacket with me and I am so glad I did! Nobody is allowed inside the cathedral if they are showing their ...

... together and you couldn't really get comfortable enough to sleep. I was told off by the ticket inspector to not lock the door which made me a little fearful for our stuff so the whole night I kept waking up and checking that all of our bags were still in our cabin area. The other highlight of the trip was being woken up at 2.30am by the ticket inspector who didn't knock or anything just opened the door and turned the light on. Again a lovely example of the European hospitality! ...
