... hill about 10km to Castelcivita which is a town perched impossibly to the side of a steep mountain. Just below this is a cave network called Grotte di Castelcivita. We joined the 4:30pm tour and spent an hour wandering through the caves enjoying the respite from the heat. At the end we headed home for a simple BBQ dinner and few wines.

10.00 am Sal and Rog drop us off at the Brindisi airport to pickup our Smartcar - automatic - GPS. Well no smartcar nor automatic or gps - so into the Citroen - manual - no gps. ... a small amphitheatre, rows of houses and shops, the administrative forum and the big highlight, 3 enormous temples which towered over the rest of the site. After many photographs and walk round the large site and attached museum we had soaked in as much of the ancient as we could. I've been looking forward to visiting the ruins of Pompei since the start of this trip and we’ll be there in a couple of days time but after the lesser known wonders of Paestum, it has a lot to live up ...
