    ... brick , hiding breathtaking mosaics are br . You are only allowed in there for 15 mins at a time to help preserve these amazing jewel like images.

    ENJOY the pics ...... We were snapping away like turtles .... Noel has many many more if you are interested in a slide night ...... !!!

    We are now heading back towards the centre of Italy ......Tuscany here we come......

    ... to do anything tourist, either did Jess and Ben. We had a nice late lunch in view of the main cathedral. We asked the our server where we could go that was not full of tourist. He suggested Piazza Santo Spirito. We decided,we would walk to Piazza Michelangelo to see the sunset. The plaza is on top of a hill that over looks Florence. We had a nice time relaxing up there and watching the sunset. After that, we took a taxi to Santo Spritio. It definitely has a more local feel to ...

    ... a magnificent mosaic feature over and around the alter. The mosaics survived the troubled times including WWII but not all the Greek marble remained in place. A number of churches were built in the area and the monks abandoned the Basilica for some time. In this time, the marble was removed/stolen. Marble from some of the other churches was recovered from their ruins and installed in the church.

    ... So we called in there on our way back and indulged. I scored three scoops and Annette two. I probably have two scoops too many! One more story. DT's or speedos for you oldies, is why all males of my vintage wear. Board shorts are not the worn thing. There I go, not in fashion yet again!

    We are now back at the hotel, sitting out the front under the awning using the WiFi. Will post this entry and off to bed. Another big and hot day tomorrow.

    Chatted with one of the port officers who was controlling the exiting vehicles from the boat. He gave us directions to the old town. We were about to make the suggested turn but we were turned around by a police officer.
