Conference in Kuwait

... my Turkish language skills, with a one on one session... mostly learning new words along the way to the airport...  Mehmet, the driver, is an elderly Turkish gentleman with an incredible sense of humor... and as we rolled up to the airport, I bid him a hearty iyi günler  and a smiling güle güle ... and into the line I cued... for the start of my great waiting marathon to begin... Kuwait - Safe to visit!

Despite the turbulence of its recent history, Kuwait today is once again beginning to reflect its status as an oil-rich nation. In 1990 Iraq claimed Kuwait as its 19th province, but the Iraqis were expelled by a United States led alliance in a short war in 1991, and now the country is separated from its threatening neighbor by a wall along its border. Hard Rock Cafe

And with the Hilton being closer to the city, it is a quick trip to eat at restaurants up there as well. Back to the Hard Rock - a great deal - all food is 50% off during Ramadan. At least one good thing during Ramadan. Met up with my old technical manager from my chemical plant days. Wasn't expecting to run into him over here.

Dinner in Fahaheel

Went into Fahaheel for dinner tonight. Ate at a Lebanese restaurant located out on the water front. And a very nice surprise on the return to the guest house - the AC died. It was 80F inside at 8:30 pm. At least we were able to get electricians to look at it. But unfortunately ...

Gone to the city for some shopping

The trip was mainly for a change in scenery - the camp, house, and beach can get pretty boring day-in day-out. Journey back into Kuwait City to go to the market with one of the other expats, he ...

We went back into the city to pick up my colleague's bag at the airport. After 3 days, he was happy to see it. This also provided the opportunity to eat dinner in the city, as ...
