... br> All this said the views were amazing – the Massif Central and the Puy de Dome in all its glory – spread out before us, with a wonderful sunset also.

BUT, apart from all of this the place was charming and the owner more than helpful! When asked about eating, he offered to add us to his party that he was cooking for, so for the amazing sum of 39E we had dinner (Mussels/Pork/Icecream/Coffee), wine and overnight camping ...

Little to report today beyond the meagreness of the hotel breakfast (which meant I had to go straight out to get another one from a café) and that I spent several hours in a Cyber Gaming Café updating this blog while surrounded by a crowd of crazy gamers, playing across networks and screaming at each other and their screens ... but I guess it keeps them off the street ;)

This is what a rest day should feel like - just chilling out, updating the blog, catching ...

... Then I see mountains on the horizon ... eek! But any concerns I had dissolved as the route continued to undulate with not a scary climb in sight. I stopped briefly in Riom for a snack and another two litres of water before pushing on to the finish.

As I arrived on the outskirts of Clermont-F I could clearly see the towering cathedral of local black stone with its twin spires marking the heart of the city, but my Garmin insisted on ...

Fairly leisurely start to the day, with a supermarket visit at coffee time. Then an amazing journey through the mountains, wooded valleys, steep zig-zag passes, big plateaux. Lunch by the river. Eventually hit the free A75 ...
