... Lemptegy, which has been quarried for the lava which is used for all sorts of things, including making cat litter! We went on a tour of the crater in a small train with a manic young guide gabbling volubly in French. At the end of the tour there was a very entertaining theme-park type experience called The Exploding Mine, which was not ...
Royat, Auvergne, France oldagetraveller... the end I could have kept on going. The scenery was amazing and the people canadians ans Austrians were a lot of fun. We are now on the road in the south of france heading for Spain in a brand new Peugot 206. Whether we get there is another question as there are so many beautiful places along the way. The weather has turned lousy with it raining all day today and really cold. Tomorrow we will head off again and see where the road takes us. Take care Carol
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France caroladele... saw at least one English yacht cruising peacefully down the canal. Someone once told me it is possible to travel from the UK to the Mediterranean through the canals of France, even in a yacht. An excellent way to see France - but don't do it in a Bongo sized boat. We first stopped in Charite-sur-Loire, for some bread, but all the other shops were shut. This seemed to be the pattern in every town we passed. At first we ...
Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France born2bongo... broadcloth coat; the fellow behind the bar was also in saloon-keeper western dress. But they spoke contemporary French. Hervé intends to attend the ABC program next year, so we had many things to discuss. We actually had bison for dinner, but this being France, we had bison brochettes. I'm not sure Crazy Horse would approve, but there it is. The meal was good, and we had a very pleasant and constructive visit. Tomorrow I head toward Switzerland.
Vichy, Auvergne, France joelmeekerOn Le Weekend we met a group of the French kids and clearly they fell in love with us. So shortly after that weekend they wanted to party with us again as soon as they could. And did we ever. Quentin had a number of us over to get to know us a little better. A couple 40s later we were much better acquainted. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Vichy, France beccx... this club is crazy. On a busy night over 3500 people go. It's all euro-techno music, crazy lights, intense security, like when you pull into the parking lot, they have huge German Shepard dog's wearing mussels and giant guys holding onto them. Oh, and one more thing, it doesn't open until 1 am and closes at 5am It's about 12 euro's to enter, and drinks cost about 8 Eur but it is so much fun! Really, I wasn't a big fan of techno music before I came here, but I have come to ...
Clermont Ferrand, France beccxSo, on September 1 we headed to the Gare de Lyon and made our way down to Vichy. Its about 3 hours by regular train south to Vichy. When I got the station a girl from my school met me and took me right to my dorm. I was super nervous about this. I really wanted something nice to live in, and thankfully my dorm is perfect for me. It was super clean, had a shower, with pressure, toilet, and kitchenette ...
Vichy, France beccx... has given us the time to enjoy the French countryside as we weave our way from Paris to Aix (8 hours south). Our drive has offered up pastoral scenes of orderly fields of wheat and sunflowers, tan, placid cows grazing, all presided over by small villages easily picked out by the church bell tower rising from the midst of the ancient villages. The French countryside is, in a word, quaint. Last night we stayed at ...
