If You're Going To San Francisco
The first thing that came to mind was Steve McQueen in Bullitt. Well, actually, that would have been the second thing. The first thing was that we were most likely going to die. You've seen it in any car chase filmed in San Francisco - that all too familiar scene where a car launches over the crest of a hilly street and hurtles through the air …

Historical Traveler Reviews Argonaut Hotel - A Kimpton Hotel San Francisco
As good as it gets!!
My husband and I stayed at the Argonaut in San Francisco 9/26-9/29/2003 to celebrate my birthday. The location could not have been any better.
Only on block from the Buena Vista Cafe (I'm already at home trying to re-create the Irish Coffee); one block from the cable car and just a hop skip and jump from Pier 39 and FWharf. The hotel is decorated in a wonderful nautical theme. The rooms are decorated as beautifully. The beds have a duck down comforter that make you feel you are sleeping on a cloud. The staff was courteous and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.....and I already have!!! Thank you!
GORGEOUS HOTEL, Don't miss it
The rooms were just gorgeous, the fluffy beds were dreamy, the employees were very helpful and polite, the parking service was grand, the wine and coffee was out standing. We booked one night and after being there, we immediately booked another. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyway, I have already to my family and friends and I can not wait to go back soon.
Absoulutely Perfect
The rooms in this hotel were absolutely beautiful. The entire staff could not have been more nice and helpful.
Magical Hotel
My wife and I spent our anniversary at this wonderful hotel. The staff is fantastic and the atmosphere is charming. Great views of the bay and everything to see and do are in walking distance to the hotel. The rooms are beautiful! Make your reservations soon because this little well kept secret wont be kept for long.
Fantastic
Hotel is brand new and wonderful. I had a Bay View King Room - view of the Golden Gate. Room is huge, free high speed internet access. Here for business would definitely come back for either pleasure or business. 5 starts - The Kimpton Group did a fantastic job with the old architecture. Near all Fisherman Wharf activities. Bonus is the Aveda products and down comforters!!!
Preservation and Business win
Overall the hotel location is good and they have done a nice job restoring this historic Cannery building. Location is decent and I felt fairly safe walking at night, two women. (Mother and daughter) Rooms are clean and new and fairly good size. It was nice to be near the Buena Vista for Irish Coffee at night! Caution- I spent for a slightly better room when I booked and I'm glad I did. This was a 4-day vacation and it made the difference in the stay for us. Our room had a nice view of the water and GG Bridge thanks to a bit of an upgrade from the kind gentleman at the front desk. The lower priced rooms have no view and look out into some type of airshaft/inner courtyard of cement. I would have been let down if that had been my room to come back to during down times. Staff was helpful with the exception of one doorman who was a bit condescending with me many times. He seemed to forget that the person you speak down to is YOUR CUSTOMER paying the bill for the stay and the one who will be tipping you. All in all the place was nice especially if you go for a slightly better room. I was going to stay at the Palomar which is also nice (and owned by the same group) but I'm glad I stayed here instead.
Wonderful Weekend
What a great boutique in San Francisco! The rooms are equipped with modern conveniences, high speed internet, a great TV and GREAT VIEWS!
The staff is friendly and very helpful. We were there for two nights on a weekend and left our window open to enjoy the wonderful breezes. The noise level is minimized by the location away from the maddening crowd of Fisherman's Wharf. We intend to go back with our children in March.
A view from England
Location is very good. Rooms are equipped with everything you need in a hotel and good quality. Quiet hotel. Staff are very friendly. The attached restaraunt is very good but a lttle limited in its range of food, not a bad thing in this location. We had a really good 3 day stay and think this hotel is hard to better.
Amazing hotel...just perfect.
If you are ever looking for a great hotel in a perfect spot, the Argonaut is the place for you. The hotel is set far enough away from the crowds of the Fishermans Wharf, and the hotel staff is one of the most accomodating and friendly people around. The Argonaut will be THE place to stay again when in town. PS- if you do stay there, make sure you go to the restaurant McCormick and Kuletos, and tell them where you are staying. Great food and service.
Great new hotel!
What a great find near Fisherman's Wharf! Finally a hotel at the wharf where I can conduct my business and my family can stay and have fun. This hotel just opened last week I believe and my stay was letter perfect. I travel to SF often and have taken my family on a few of the trips but have never really been able to find a hotel that accommodates my needs and the needs of my family. This one does it. Everything is brand new which helps...the rooms were great...and the views from the windows are what you want to see in SF. On top of all that they provide free highspeed internet access on a desk that is the perfect height to use a computer and an adjustable chair. The decor reminded us of being on a luxury cruise liner...the best part is the free wine hour everynight and seeing my wife relaxing on a deck chair in the lobby like she was sailing out to sea. The kids loved the location for all the wharf activities and the staff was very accommodating to our needs...connecting rooms and fun events for my kids. It may be a little more expensive than one of the other wharf area hotels but it's worth the extra bucks if your going to stay in that area to be able to do it first class like the Argonaut did. I hope that the hotel continues to pretend that it is a brand new hotel and the staff continue to have that excitable charm that they all seemed to possess. I saw a picture of one of the suites and next time I go back without the kids I hope to secure one for a romantic getaway with the Mrs. The restuarant attached (Blue Marlin or something like that) had some awesome chowder which was perfect on one of the cooler nights in SF. I highly recommend this place.
