Cruz Verde 309, Arequipa, Peru
Arequipe is a really beautiful city, it's at the foot of the El Misti Volcano, which is huge and stands at nearly 6km above sea level. Most of the city is built using white volcanic rocks which glint sightly in the sun, and the whole place has a really nice feel to it, which was just what we needed after a rather interesting bus journey there. Not only was it much longer than the 5hours they'd said, but we also had a tyre blow out as we were navigating the twisty roads leading down into the c...

... the Incan times and was found at the top of a volcano not to long ago. It was a really great exibit but no pictures allowed. Then we went to the Monastario de Santa Catalina, a cloistered convent built in 1580 and opened to the public in the 1970s. It was really cool and huge. The nuns had HUGE quarters, with there own kitchens. Lots of pics...
Arequipa, Peru bethj... to them I don´t feel very flexible when wearing one. The only thing I feel less comfortable in are the massive life jackets they make you wear rafting because these need to be pulled extra tight and the feeling across my chest is always one of suffocation and squashing. At least with the jacket though it comes with valuable life saving properties so I endure... :)

So; cold, cold water and a boat guide who was a little bit too cheeky ...
Arequipa, Peru ness010... through the files to see if there was anything that stood out to me. I knew my parents wanted someone young, so that they could hopefully help the kid to follow the right track from the beginning. I narrowed it down to six – fortunately the age thing was very helpful.

Next, interviews. The interviews were actually just to update their files, but they also served as a good opportunity for me to get to know the children and more ...

Arequipa, Peru edgar_betania... A 2 hour long adrenaline rush was what the sand boarding was like. The buggy driver was crazy and I think the whole buggy full of beautiful screaming girls only encouraged the crazy driving. I took a video while we were driving around, hopefully it makes you laugh. There were two ways to sand board, on your feet or on your stomach. I thought on your stomach was more fun. There was this guy Frank who was really good at "riding the ply" as he put it. Sand ...
Arequipa, Peru jnsheer805... kind enough to give us a flyer that showed the new address...Back into another cab for a long tour around the outskirts of the city. When we got to the clinic we found, not a clinic, but a partially built new children´s hospital that was closed! Back into the cab and he drove us to an emergency ward (I wasn´t right, but not really A&E stuff). Ironically we were now back within 3 blocks of our starting point, so we had another look at the book and found information ...
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru shellbell84... br> Oh, one other reason why Arequipa is named the White City, apparently is by the overwhelming ratio of ¨whites¨who live here... whites, being the direct descendants of the Spaniards, and the topmost level in Peru´s socio economic class, the ¨mixed¨aka meztisos being in the middle, and the Indians being at the bottom. We´ve had a lot of observations on these as well, but that would mean another page in my email, which I will spare you of... for ...
Arequipa, Arequipa, Peru sakuyaini... the way. We reached the base of some cliffs and some Pre-Incan tombs before turning back. Alan continued to the summit of a small outcrop with a cross on top. One thing we have to get used to is the length of the day - the sun is up at 6am. and sets at 6pm., no long early summer days like we're used to. Dinner was at the hotel; followed by some lazy time around the fireplace.
