Tønsberg

Left Stavern later than anticipated after having a fight with the tent and packing my bag. Why do things always come out easily but you can never get everything back in. Solution tie my smeller wet trainers on to the side of the rucksack. 1 day of trekking and they really do smell. Anyway arrived in Tønsberg just after mid-day in glorious sunshine. Tønsberg is reported to be the oldest town in Norway built in the ...

Stavern

... to Stavern following the blue dots painted on a variety of rocky outcrops, wooden posts and trees. This was alot of fun clambering over the granite rocks, walking through small patches of woodland and the views of the Skerries (rocky islands). However getting wet feet, embarrasingly slipping off the smooth granite rocks, getting stung by stinging nettles and even getting lost somehow didn't ruin a good walk. The ...

From Trondheim to Vollen

... really need to get to Gothenburg to see the Olson's and Saxin's and spent about an hour trying to figure out a better way than train to get there. It looks like we will be taking the bus at 9:15. We'll see how this works. Ellen let us use her home as our rest area for the night. It's nice and bright here at 11 pm and it 's hard to turn in, but 5 am will come early enough and we better get some rest. Tomorrow: Sweden!

Northern Lights

... yesterday. I've really enjoyed it so far. It has been really fun catching up with his family and telling them about my semester since I left them in August. Joe's dad says he thinks my Norwegian has gotten better since I left, so that makes me feel really good. There have been some little changes around here too. Joe's dad has been working on a roof and walls for a sort of out-door shelter for cooking and such just by the patio where we ate dinner during the ...

The World's End

... in the water. So I tried to get it out using a stick, but I fell in. Luckily the water wasn't very cold so I was okay. My pants and shoes were soaked, but my shirt wasn't that wet, so I wrapped a blanket around my legs. I was funny, and it was fun. I will always remember going there. We had a fire and cooked pinnebrød and hot dogs. It was so beautiful and relaxing. After awhile we left and went home.

quick update

Hey, again, I'm at work, so I must keep this short. Time has flown by and it's my last day here. I wrote an entry offline about it last night that i'll post later. Tonight I pack up my stuff and head to Oslo with Jo-Petter to scope out the city and meet up with the other PLU students on Wednesday. I think I'll be in Hamar by Friday or Saturday. I might even have internet by Sunday! No promises. Anyway, I'm happy and healthy. More later!

Salmon are my heroes

... first arrived I took one look at the water slamming down into white foam and rocks and thought, it must be some other easier spot that they actually jump. After 10 or 15 minutes Ivar spotted a small salmon making a jump but I missed it. It didn't give up, though, which gave me the opportunity to see it hurl itself a good 5-7 feet up into the white downward flowing energy. It looked suicidal. Needless to say, I have a new respect for salmon. It ...

I love my job!

... I can't wait to be able to do it successfully. Siv showed me how she does this with one of the residents. She also showed me how she tucks him into bed. She is so patient and sweet with him, and well, with me too, for that matter. In many respects I feel like I'm just another resident to my co-workers since they have to help me with everything...haha, except the residents speak the same language. Oh well, anyway, I like all the people that I've worked with. The ...

Search at Tjome

... world: a very rapid increase was developed in it after the alteration of the British Navigation Laws, which enabled the Norwegians to compete with us as carriers on even terms. It seems most strange to an Englishman, to find a village of seventy houses (Grimstad) sending out one hundred and fifty first-class ships; whilst Arendal, a very small town according to our mode of estimating places, owns between three and four hundred vessels going beyond sea. +++++++++++++++ As the ferry ...
