Last days in Portugal

... and watches from the wings. Then sheºs in... battered and bruised as she battles those gladiator waves to enter the playground. Ok, letºs try again... getting past those rollers as they come into shore aint so easy... and they do it again... it was the washing machine effect and sheººs out for good this time. Lym grinning on the horizon for the next 15mins bobbing up and down as there are no waves out there, then he gets the Bold 2 in 1 ...

my gosh Lagos

14 Nov
we awoke early and decided to go for a stroll along the river bank to the point where it met the ocean (NOTE AT TIME OF WRITING, we have an entry for Odeceixe to insert). En route we had a quick wash using water that was effectively run off from the hillside. Proceeding on at the beach, we were greeted by two sea otters, happily frolicking in the surf; a wonderful pre breakfast feast for the eyes. As the tide was running very low, surfing ...

a shift in energy

... Imposing cliffs drop into the sea, and it has an "end of the world" feel to it. I forgot my camera, so you should just google some photos.

I returned to the hostel to check my emails. Good news for a change! I have a host in Seville through couch surfing, and a host in Badajoz willing to take me on for a couple weeks of olive picking. Life is good. I joined Kirsten for a celebratory beer, and a wander through the streets of Lagos.

Wave riding

The kiting in Alvor is supposedly one of the best spots in Portugal, because of a huge shallow lagoon, however the wind was in the opposite direction so we ended up kiting on the sea side in the waves. Exhausting, but very fun to launch off the waves. We met a wicked ...

Sagres

The west and south coast of Portugal is pretty much a long stretch of beaches surrounded and separated by huge red cliffs and you can get from one beach to another by crawling through caves in the cliffs (I also think that's where the bums sleep at night...) We did some surfing at a small secluded beach that I had been to 4 years ago with my family. We’re ...

... that I have 5 minutes to buy mt ticket, take a much needed potty break and grab my bags. To facilitate all of this I ask the British couple behind me in line to buy my ticket for me as I take care of the other 2 items. Guess what, I STILL miss the bus. I saw the bus pull away. All I needed was an extra minute and I would have been fine. Damn!!! No worries. I know that the train leaves in 45 minutes, the next bus isn't for another 2 hours. I get my 5E back for ...

Sangria Tastes Like Juice and Makes you Mental

... extreme caution, though it never is. So we returned to entroncomento for a few days, met some of Bruno´s friends and had dinner with his parents a few times. Did some BBQ´s and sampled Bruno´s homemade sangria. They really love it here! We were pretty good that night though. So I left yesterday and took the train up to Porto to catch my flight into Barcelona. Bruno made one of his friends pick me up which made me feel very embarassed but it worked out great. I only ...

Faro

... It was all a bit too much for us, not our idea of what we were looking for in Portugal. We will check out a few more places in the Algarve, hopefully another place will suite us better. The Algarve is the southern portion of Portugal. It is over 200kms long with 150 kms being beach. The western half of the beaches have large rock formations with most beaches set in coves, the eastern half has long stretches of sandy beach. In some areas the beaches are not along the coast but on ...

Back to the Sunshine

... at around 6 or 6:30pm in my bed and woke up at 9pm wondering if I should get up for a while, but then fell back asleep a minute later and woke up again the next morning just after 10am. I always feel really guilty about sleeping in and not going out and doing "something", but I really needed that. Usually I just get a few hours here and there to try and make up for not sleeping for a night, but then my energy never feels completely up for a while. So since I didn´t want ...
