... and adjacent ruins of the old nunnery. Iona is considered a very sacred site in the history of Celtic Christianity and the Christian community is very active here, running retreats and programs for people from all over the world. It is now an ecumenical centre, attractive to those interested in the Celtic version of Christianity, nature and feminine images prominent. I had time for a walk too, up onto one ...

Day 85

The Peak Challengers were up and about at 0600 so I decided to have an early start too. I caught a bus at 0730 into Fort William but had missed the early ferry to Camusnagaul so I had to wait for the next at 1000.

The Caledonian Canal is a passage which cuts completely through Scotland from Inverness to fort William and consists of a series of natural Lochs joined up with manmade canals. Finally, back in town, we had a walk along the main street of Fort William and through the remains of the Old ...

... else. So I had one of my grumps, I was tired, I wasn't even 100% sure I was on the right train! the scenery was *****, etc etc. then I had to wait 15 minutes at Dalmuir for my train, more ***** scenery and cold and grey. Eventually my Oban train arrived and we headed off on a 3 hour trip. Within a few minutes my mood changed. The scenery very quickly became exceptional, lochs with mountains coming right to the waters edge, woods with trees I couldn't identify, ...
