Ardoe House Aberdeen

You arrive up a sweeping drive into a Victorian Scottish castle with views across the countryside and gardens. Once inside the main areas of the hotel are in keeping with the age of the building and location. The rooms in the newer part of the hotel aren't exactly modern but they're clean and you really won't want to spend much time in them. Definately recommend eating in the hotel the food was fabulous.

Just arrived home from a wonderful weekend break at the Ardoe House. It is a beautiful old building with fantastic original features, olde worlde charm and very efficient and friendly staff. Our room (237) was in the extension part of the hotel which blended in perfectly with the old building. Everything was spotless and furnished to a high standard, especially the bathroom. Free toiletries and bathrobes were supplied. Our break included dinner on one of the nights and we were invited to attend a Ceilidh / Dinner held in one of the function rooms. This is Scottish dancing for those of you who don't know. The four piece Ceilidh band were excellent and talked you through the dances so that even the clumsiest in the room could enjoy it and take part. The food was also of a good standard and local Scottish fair. Breakfast was very enjoyable and not the normal buffet style so common in hotels these days. The staff took your order at the table and the food was prepared freshly just for you. Piping hot and delicious. We had a fabulous two days in the Ardoe House and our only word of caution is to be aware that the bar prices are not cheap. A pint of Guinness was £3.65 and House wine was over £15 a bottle. There was however a full bottle of Champagne deliverd to our room shortly after our arrival along with a selection of quality chocolates.

Having read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Ardoe. What I got was a great break away. We found all staff to be very pleasant and friendly. Our room was great, very spacious and comfortable - however if you have any walking difficulties make sure you advise when you confirm your reservation as many rooms are a fairly long walk from reception. The grounds are lovelyand the ambience of the hotel is very relaxing and warm. Our evening meal was delicious but was let down by inconsistent levels of service. I couldn;t help but notice that some tables received lots of attention where others (myself included) received the most basic (although pleasant) service - i agree that the restaurant is understaffed.

All in all this is a lovely hotel and I wouldn;t hesitate to return and would gladly recommend Ardoe to anyone.

The hotel is well appointed, however, it is understaffed, and the staff is young and not very well trained.

It took 45 minutes for the bistro to bring my order of fish and chips, but they brought a salmon sandwich. The shower did not drain, and although I asked for it to be repaired, it was not.

I would like to recommend GORDON, the concierge. He was very helpful, in both directions, maps (with clearly drawn shortcuts) and out of the way castle ruins.

First impressions very nice indeed, beautiful house to drive up to, lovely grounds. Thought it felt a bit musty in reception-obviously old building and part of the charm. Porter was helpful and took us to our room in the new part of the hotel ( about 5 yrs old). Beautiful room in keeping with the older part of the house. Drawing room special place as was leisure club. Beware parents!- children are not allowed in leisure club after 7.30pm so make sure they eat early! Ardoe house really grew on us and we'd stay there again for sure. Charming and peaceful.

We stayed in the Blair suite. We checked in at 2pm as advertised but the room wasn't ready, we eventually got in at 4pm. Suite was very nicely decorated and spacious but spoilt by the damp stained ceiling and dirty dishes left outside the door by the cleaner. They were still there at 9pm when we asked for them to be removed.

The meal was excellent but again spoilt by a £7.50 red meat supplement on top of the menu price ??

The leisure facilities are a private health club within the hotel complex so expect it to get quite busy with members who are non-guests.

The hotel is very nice but just not proportionate to the amount they charge to stop there. Disappointed.

We had a lovely time at Ardoe last year, but it didn't live up to some of the other wonderful experiences we have had in Aberdeenshire hotels.

Fabulous rooms, fantastic service, magnificent staff, reasonable price, great location, even the weather was good.

What a super place to stay. My freind had a wedding there and the day as a hole was the best.

The Staff where well trained. And the male bar staff where very cute.

Just the most perfect place to stay in Aberdeen! And the food in the restaurant is better than you could ever imagine!
