Hotel very comfortable. Friendly stuff. Everything clean. Good food and breakfast. Transfer from/to Airport well organized. Great views to Icefjord from rooms. Beware of the Igloo. They need some renovation. Not worth the price.

We must have looked a funny sight trudging into the Hilton reception in Reykjavik this morning to check out in our immersion suits ready for flying. 10 minutes in a taxi and we were at the airport.
The FBO at Reykjavik airport is very efficient and everything including fuelling was done in a few minutes, so we were ready to go earlier than …
Our early morning call came at 6:30 this morning. We are arriving in the city of Ilulissat, Greenland. A quick look out the window at breakfast showed that we were again surrounded in pack ice, icebergs, and frozen bits of floating ice. It was something out of a fairy tale. On the side of the hill were brightly coloured buildings in red, yellow, blue, green. I do not know what woke me at 7:50, but I shot out of bed and arrived in time to have a quick breakfast before heading down to the mud room to boot up and get my life vest on for out trip to Karrit Island. As soon as I got into the zodiac, I realised that we are situated in a bay absolutely full of icebergs. We are in a fjord that is surrounded with mountains and glaciers, and our destination ...
Hello from Greenland. Yes, it is the other end of the Earth! But, if you get a chance, dear reader, do not forego a trip. Yes, it is a remove to 'wild west'. At affordable prices, the facilities are pretty basic. And, affordable prices - aren't for the faint hearted, or the impecuniary! But, the sheer size of the glaciers, the age of the ice they comprise, the sound of the ice cracking, the visceral resonance of the resulting avalanche, and the vibration through the earth as ...
Today we are awoken by the crunching of ice floes on the hull of the ship. We were planning to dock in Llulissat and then take small boat to the largest glacier ( Jacobshaven ) in the northern hemisphere but unfortunately fog has prevented us from docking . Whilst is is disappointing we must accept that this won't be the last time we are unable to do what is planned. As has been pointed out this is an ...
