Hotel very comfortable. Friendly stuff. Everything clean. Good food and breakfast. Transfer from/to Airport well organized. Great views to Icefjord from rooms. Beware of the Igloo. They need some renovation. Not worth the price.

Hiking In Ilullissat and cruising in the icebergs

The night without darkness -- at least none that we noticed. Fairly adequate curtains plus sleep masks did the trick but whenever I woke briefly and peeked out, there was light.

Our midnight iceberg cruise (not on one but among them), is now no longer at 2 PM. Iceland Unlimited fixed the booking. Breakfast was all you could want - bacon, sausage, eggs, french toast, cereal and the list goes on. Did I mention coffee? Nope, well it was much good and superior to the stuff we had ...

    To Ilulissat Greenland

Today we fly to Ilulissat, Greenland, 250 km North of the Arctic Circle. This eclipses the 25 miles North we did in March. A taxi took us to the Reyjkavik domestic airport to a small terminal for flight to Greenland. There were four flights going to various destinations in an hour - far more than I would have expected. The plane is a Dash-8, a twin- prop that carries 37 people. Flight time is around 3.5 hours plus we gain two more hours ...

Our final full day in Greenland is gorgeous, with clear skies and brilliant sun reflecting on a sea that seems full of ice. We have no idea what has happened overnight, but there are many more small icebergs today, and they are cramming into the harbor. We take a small whale-watching boat just large enough for our group plus one lucky lady from Germany. It is fast and comfortable, but it feels like we ...

    Dinner in Oqaatsut Village

... dinner our guide takes us on a walk through the village, and then we cruise back to Ilulissat. This is the first day where it has been mostly cloudy. Approaching Ilulissat we encounter a lot of fog and mist around the icebergs. The fog adds an ethereal beauty to the scene, but it also conjures up images of the Titanic – especially when the captain veers in one direction or another to avoid a collision. Another wonderful adventure in ...
