      The only reason I came to Fontainebleau was to walk in the forest (to get a break from the city rush) and to get closer to the Loire Valley, where I will be getting on a cruise! Anyways, today I walked to the forest and hiked for eight hours, then returned to my hotel. Initially, I had wanted to go horseback riding on the trail, but I was not disappointed with the hike.       ... We noticed the palace is not on the axis of the gardens. Did sometime tell the king?

      Then back to the car and the drive to Provins. Not too bad, although it was dark when we arrived. Lots of roundabouts, then narrow roads through the forest, where I was paranoid about deer. Provins is a very charming town, quite Medieval in character. We had no difficulty finding our hotel, Le Cesar. It is modern in décor but evokes the middle ages: The walls of the hallways ...
