... people lived here still but the towns were all shut up. The area is very popular in summer as people come to camp alongside the river and canoe. Did that mean that these were really just tourist towns? What did all these people do during winter? There were plenty of fois gras shops, so maybe if we enjoyed duck liver a bit more we might have found some locals to mix with.

... and the Chateau Milandes where Josephine Baker lived. The owners of Red Shutters came for dinner one night with some relatives (9 of us) and we went for tea to Alison's mother's house -- a beautiful property overlooking the Vezere River. We went back to Rouffingnac to a flea market where Joe and Tim found a few treasures.

... from 11th century forward. Most of the early ones were "updated" in the 15th and16th centuries. I don't even want to think about the plumbing for them.

We had neighbors from Spain, Germany, Netherlands and France of course. Harry took this picture and I hadn't even had a sip of wine...ha. We search for a new local red wine every day. It IS hard work.
