There were two choices today for tours. John visited the Hermitage wine vineyards. A 300 acre vineyard high on the hill with terraced walls of vines. They produce 70% red from the black Syrah grape & 30% white from Marsanne & Rousanne white grapes. Visited Vienne today, a Roman town, one of Gaul's largest settlements. It became a Roman Colony in 47 BC under Julius Caesar. We decide to just turn left towards where the river must be and after skirting around a sports pitch we cycle along an industrial ...

... on the opposite bank with a bridge a bit further along - that means we've done a nice circular route of quite a few extra kms! Really annoying having to stop for so many traffic lights along the suburbs until we are further out of the city but then it gets steep. Must be an expensive area as there are so many huge gates with massive houses behind but we can't see any sign of the elusive Voie Verte. Stop in Givors where the market was just closing at 12 ...
