... colours of the trees and the brilliant green of the grass was amazing.

E failed to get any lunch as we discovered that 11:11 is a bank holiday in France and everywhere was closed! So we arrived at the hotel at 5:00 pm and were starving! We checked in and the owner kindly provided us with pate and bread and a glass of red....perfect!

Another day along the coast. The route took us away from the sea although we did find a great view across to Ile D'Oleron from near La Tranche sur Mer. A particular feature of the coast is the marshes (Marais with various water beds for oysters, nets for shrimps and shortly eels at Marans. ... with three different kinds of veges - ratatouille, shredded carrots and other veges all shredded and potatoes. It was absolutely divine. They serve lots of salad in France, so it was nice to get the variety of veges. Dessert was some local speciality, a kind of bread and butter pudding with fruit, was served cold - meant to be I guess and tasted ok, hard to top the main tho. After our very late night being cool in Paris, we slept in a bit later than usual. Today was a transition day to our new location in Lyon for two nights, so we were hopeful we would be up early to maximize our last few hours in Paris. Oh well - we are on vacation.
