... Mrs. Ells had a floppy disk of Oregon Trail on the Apple computer in the back of the classroom. It was the hardest game. I don't think I ever made it. I saw my tombstone so many times, I lost count. Now, having seen what it was like on one tiny part of the trail, I can see that the game developers had it just about right. I never really knew how hot Nebraska got ...

... let me fall asleep in our packed-to-the-top car, so I wound up setting up the tent and we slept for a few hours in the tent... Next to the car.... On pavement. At least tomorrow we don't have to drive! Angela - when you pull into a campsite in the dark the last thing you want to do is try to navigate putting up a tent. Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Fort Laramie, Wyoming was built in 1834 near the confluence of the Laramie and North Platte rivers and originally served as a fur trading post. Indian tribes, especially the Lakota (Sioux), traded tanned buffalo robes here for manufactured goods. When the take of buffalo hides declined, the fort served as a refueling station for the tens of thousands of westward-bound emigrants en route to ...

Towering over 800 feet above the North Platte River, Scotts Bluff served as a prominent natural landmark for emigrants on the Oregon Trail. This 3,000 acre National Monument protects Scotts Bluff, Mitchell Pass, and the adjacent prairie lands and the memory of westward expansion on the historic Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. American Indians, explorers, fur trappers, and wagon trains of emigrants have all used Scotts Bluff as a landmark as they journeyed across the Great ...
