Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico pamericas... is more cultivated, looks a big cereal area, very flat right to the hills on the horizon, almost like home.
As I approached Los Mochis it looked like I was heading for the hills but it was only for about 5km then back on the plains again.
Hotel El Doradao a bit more up market and expensive but occasionally I'm worth and they have safe parking and free Internet.
I had sussed out a Chinese restaurant for a change on the way I got ...
Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico pearcy... budget hotel in town, and the bus for the train station departs from in front of the hotel in the mornings. They have around a dozen rooms and each is different; some are a lot better than others, so if you're not happy with the first one that you get shown, then ask to see another. All the rooms have private bathroom and most have cable TV. The cheapest room with no TV was 200 Peso for two ...
El Fuerte, Northern Mexico, Mexico amazingjourneysOur morning departure for Mazatlan was severely delayed when we were kidnapped by some of the new in-laws, a trio of Sinaloan housewives, and taken on a pilgrimage to the town they were born, somewhere in the Sinaloan countryside. "Here," they gestured at a row of white houses in the 300 person hamlet, "lived the rich, and over there," pointing across the river, "the poor. Us!". The houses didn´t look all that different to me but ...
Guasave, Northern Mexico, Mexico lisaviro1981After a 14 hour journey involving several road blocks to ensure we weren´t importing dangerous fruit into the state of Sinaloa (the most notorious battlegrounds of bllodthirsty drugs czars abound and they´re worried about....fruit?!) and we arrived in Guasave, a ´city´of between 150,000 and 300,000 people according to whom you believe, which only appeared on the map last year. Spooky, I feel like Pedro Paramo. We were given a couple ...
Guasave, Northern Mexico, Mexico lisaviro1981... was 50 feet long] ). In La Paz we finally realized that the Baja is almost an extension of LA. More gringos than you can shake a stick at living there and the grocery stores are full of US goods including Yakima Valley wines and Vlassic dill pickles (we bought both). On Sunday we headed for the ferry, an adventure of sorts in itself. In typical fashion, no signs tell you where to go for permits and tickets so Mike's Spanish got a workout. We sat through loading ...
Guasave, Mexico katynmike... hopefully he will think of us when he dons his swanky red and white ball cap. During our round of goodbyes we ran into Ben C. another fellow beach camper. Ben was tired of the Baja and decided that there was no time like the present to hit the ferry and explore the mainland. We did not mind the company and helping a fellow camper find the path to Mazatlan. As instructed by the Baja Ferry office, we arrived at the ferry terminal 3 hours in advance of the sail time. Not only did ...
Topolobampo, Mexico mikeandgerAmazing brainwave on the bus was that i could esape the bus at Los Moches, and catch the ferry across to La Paz at the bottom of the Baja Peninsula! Pictures in my head of decktop sleeping, so offloaded at 8am and spent the day wandering Los Moches.. Pretty sure i was the only gringo in town, and i can see why! pretty well nothing to see/do there.. Eventually bused to Topolabampo, quite a nice wee harbour, but 6 hrs waiting without a book to occupy my time was a bit tough!!
Los Moches, Mexico jamesjamesAdios Puerto Vallarta! May day, May day, May day....it's our Anniversary! 14 years of wedded bliss and what do we do to celebrate all of our bliss? We spend an hour on the road for every year we've been married! We probably will never forget this anniversary. Anyhow before leaving PV we spent the two days, before we left, hitting a couple of beaches and squeezing every moment out of this awesome Mexican experience. We spent a day again in Sayulita ...
Los Mochis, Mexico shelbysimmondsWe started the train journey at about 11 am on the 5th of April and as it would turn out we wouldn´t be finished travelling until 3pm on the following day!! At least the first 10 hours didn´t feel like travelling. The train from Creel to Los Mochis was a real experience. The train goes through a massive canyon, apparently 4 times bigger (I don´t know by what measure) than the Grand Canyon. The Canyon is ...
