Fast sail all the way over to Otranto and even had the fun of Dolphins playing at the helm. Busy shipping lanes overnight kept us all on our toes and Eric plenty of time to practise his lights. Winds were so favourable we headed on South to M.Saint Di Leuca still arriving by 3pm in time for a cocktail on shore before getting Ellis already for next early departure ...

    The hills are alive...

... involved hiking an immense set of stairs, built into the cliffside, and around a very cool cave at the base. At the top we were greeted by a basilica and a lighthouse. Not a bad start to the day...Until we looked up the coast and spotted what was to be the first of many hills in our ride. ... we might see a winery there, but of course everything here closes from 1 to 4, including vineyards and we got to Nardo about 1. No problem. we explored a little, picked up more strawberries because the first batch looked so good we didn't think it would be enough, then headed on to Gallipoli, our final destination for the day. (This is not the Gallipoli of WWI) About 12 km from our hotel we came over a slight hill ...

    Return to Otranto

Today we returned to Otranto, which we visited five years ago on our first ever bike trip to Italy. The ride up the coast was gorgeous with rolling hills and sheer cliffs to the ocean; it was some of the best biking terrain we have seen. Otranto brings back very fond memories of time spent here with friends. We stayed in the same five ...
