... majority of the towns, there was barely a hotel open. Many of the hotels obviously hadn't been open for a while, inspite of their advertising along the road. Where there was the odd hotel open, the town struggled to have an eatery that might be open in the evening.
While not getting desperate, were quite relieved when we discovered Hotel dei Bizantini, just outside Campo dei Messapi.

Breakfast was supplemented by strawberries from a shop up the road. Local and sweet, they didn't even last till we reached the waterfall!
