Rain and Mountains

... the National Park for a few hours. It may have rained, and we all may have frozen a little bit, but I think it was worth it. From where ever you were in Killarney, you could see the mountains, which were covered in snow. The park had some wild animals, some streams, and a castle at the end of our journey. Everything, to me, ...

Day 12 - Already!!!

Arrived in Killarney yesterday afternoon after another big day of traveling. Today involved a 100 mile drive around the Killarney Ring which was basically more of what we did yesterday. We elected to have a day out of the coach and on our own. Most of the group are ok but we were glad of some time alone. We left the motel at 0830 and went exploring ..... For 6 hours. Poor Kebby, I think he was over it after the first 3.5 hours lol. Killarney is ...

The builder was very particular about the craftsmanship as well-he had all the workers who built the Abbey killed, out of fear they would build another abbey using the same techniques they employed at Corcomroe. Boy, was he tough...

We saw 3 demonstrations by the bird handler (if that is what they are called). Mat even got to hold the Battelier Eagle! Pretty cool stuff! Look closely at the photo, how many 'eagles' can you find! This was not intentional AT ALL!!

THE place to go and rest them weary bones!!

    from Breezerforce

It was time for a short break from the daily routine so my wife and I decided to make the short trip from Limerick to Killarney for the weekend. We are deffo going back and the Arbutus is one of the main reasons. Rarely have we so enjoyed a stay in a hotel. The staff are so attentive and cheerful it is a pleasure to behold. And if you want to know what the ska and the craic is then the excellent barstaff will fill you in as if you were a local. Great rooms, great hotel, superb staff. To say it with the Terminators own words : WE WILL BE BACK!!

    Comfort and Luxury in Killarney

    from anonymous

Hi - After a recent weekend stay in the Arbutus hotel I can highly recommend this wonderfully welcoming and comfortable place. A few of the key things I liked about the place - comfort (crisp linen sheets in our tastefully decorated large bedroom), calm (living room ideal place to chill out in front of the fire with a newspaper after a day's hiking), location (in the heart of town), Sunday morning trad sesions in Buckley's Bar (the real thing!). Enjoy!

    Great Stay in the Arbutus

    from anonymous

Superb hotel in the smaller scale traditional old Continental style.

From the attentive management (in the same family for generations, and the care shows) through the staff (one of whom went out of her way on her way home to walk us through town to explain car parks and roundabouts), these folks exude professional care with a truly personal touch.

Breakfast includes the best scones in town!

    Absolutely recommended without qualification.

    WHAT A FIND

    from anonymous

Just returned from a great weekend in Killarney with our 3 kids. Late on Friday evening we arrrived in Killarney with the intention of staying in a 5 or 4 star hotel. To our surprise all were full & so I went into Rí-Rá internet cafe, looked up Tripadvisor & decided to try The Arbutus. 3 star my eye is all I can say. We had one of the best hotel experiences ever. From the welcome to the good bye the whole thing was top class. We will be back

    Loved The Arbutus Hotel

    from anonymous

My husband and I had the great pleasure and the wonderful experience of spending seven nights at The Arbutus Hotel, in Killarney, Ireland. The staff were all so attentive and accommodated all of our needs. The room and bathroom were charming and very tastefully decorated. I especially loved the naturally scented soap and shampoo. Laundry service was prompted. The breakfast was so tasty & such a delight. Mother Buckley's great fruit salad and scones we looked forward to having each morning along with our breakfast. When we return to Ireland, we will book our nights in Killarney at The Arbutus Hotel. We would highly recommend anyone who plans to travel to Killarney to book a night or two or three at The Arbutus Hotel. The Buckely Pub is right next door. How much more could one want.

    Old World Charm

    from anonymous

The Arbutus Hotel is a rare hotel in Ireland. It is not one of those 3 star hotel chains that cater to your wallet than your needs, on the contrary, this hotel is friendly, where the staff from the receptionist, kitchen & bar staff (especially Denis & Tim) know the guests by first name and treat you like family. Mr & Mrs Sean Buckley (the owners) pamper their guests 100%, never stopping to improve their service. I recommend if your ever in Ireland and not sure where to stay, stop in Killarney, ask anyone there where the Arbutus is stroll on in to the bar, have a pint by the fire and listen to locals playing their music. Kudos Sean!!!!!!!!!

    Lovely Kerry charm, excellent attention

    from anonymous

I've stayed in dozens of hotels all around Ireland. The Arbutus is cetainly a gem. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent care and atttention and located right in the heart of Killarney.

    The Best Hotel in Killarney

    from anonymous

This is one hotel we keep going back to every year. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the rooms exceed expectations and its convenient location is hard to beat. And if you don't want to go out in the evening, there is fine traditional music played in the bar. When in Killarney The Arbutus is the place to stay.

Base Camp for Gap of Dunloe

    from anonymous

Intimate Hotel that can serve as a great base camp for exploring the area. Service at the front desk was exceptional in helping us during our first three days in Ireland. Easy walk to tour locations. Take the time and enjoy the Gap of Dunloe tour. All day but not something you will find anywhere in the States. Bring a camera and raincoat.

    Great location and value!

    from anonymous

I stayed for 2 nites at the Arbutus and loved it!

It has a great location for pub crawling and shopping, just a few blocks away from all the action. But the best feature is that it also has the best pub (Buckley's) and the best traditional music in Killarney. The hotel is a little old and worn, but has a great ambience to it. My room, a single, was clean, well furnished and had a nice bathroom, tub & shower and the bed was comfortable. The owner(?)and manager Shaun Buckley was extremely helpful to me in making reservations via email and all the staff was friendly and helpful to me. A great value! I will never stay anywhere else in Killarney.
