    ... around shopping malls. Abortions, were of course, also outlawed, so all of a sudden they had unwed women and teenagers with unwanted babies, families who couldn't feed unwanted children and hence, the Romanian orphan situation. Of course, many women also died from having illegal abortions.

    Another reason why this town might be a bit depressed was because there was no beer in Bucharest until 1989! No beer! 1989! Is anyone hearing this??? Post Revolution ...

    ... As a result of this the four of us bought far too much. Not wanting to let the beer sit out overnight, we decided we had to finish it all. The problem with this was we wanted to go to bed early and didn't want to be hungover for the busy day. So as a result we spent a good portion of the night running around the hostel sketchily offering beer to everyone and explaining we have to finish it tonight but don't want to drink it ourselves. ...

    Our two week trip south to the Rhodope mountains got off to a slow start. We had a mishap with the bus in Popovo, only 8km away. Not to be easily put off, we enjoyed a couple of tourist days in exotic Popovo and Targovishte, discovering new wonders, before getting on the road on day three.

    ... his 3 passengers (unsurprisingly) didn't :) Amazing how you can communicate with a non-english speaking taxi driver, but who talks with this hands.. And let's just say there was some interesting driving that resulted! We did discover he has a 6ft tall son studying in St Louis.
