Sunday 17 Aug 14 - Arrived Dubai at 1:15pm and very quickly through immigrations and customs although the "Smart Terminal" set up for fast processing fell in a heap. We were directed to the "fast lane" to electronically scan our passports and ended up fronting a customs officer who stamped out passpors, as usual. Bureaucracy never changes !!

... expecting to see a large variety of spices on mass, but there was only a small table outside shops which were selling things other than spices. One shopkeeper showed us a round dried item about the size of a table tennis ball and asked us what we thought it was - we didn't have a clue as we'd never seen anything like it. ... was for women and children only. It wasn’t segregation as women and children can travel in any carriage. This seemed to be more of a concession. Out of respect? This concession is only between 7am-9am and 5pm – 8pm. From experience the carriages can become very crowded and as there is no-one to monitor the crowd control it remains with the individual if he or she wished to be crammed in to a confined space. I woke up at a reasonable time which is good as I thought I'd have jet lag but u actually felt quite awake and was looking forward to the day ahead of me!
