So, I arrive in Frankfurt without incident. Collect my bags, cruise through passport control, and made my way to the train station, which is located right in the airport. Couldn't be easier. Just like MARTA in Atlanta, only you can get all over the continent vs. 1 city.
I paid for a trip to Geneva and was told there would be one train change, in Basel, which would have about a 10 minute layover. Now Basel was about 5 hrs. away ...
... Christus Kirche, an old red sandstone church. Further on I reached Schlooss Johannisburg, a magnificent red sandstone castle we had seen from the river. I walked back to the ship through a nice city park along the river.
Had duck for dinner tonight. Makes you wonder about all the ducks you see swimming by the ship.
Just because a seat isn't marked reserved doesn't mean it's not reserved. We got on the train to Brussels from the international train station at Frankfurt airport. Super nice train. But stopping at Koln, a load of British pensioners got on the train. "Excuse us, we believe you are sitting in our seats." Oh. Now the train is full and we sit on the floor, near the door and the toilet. Even nice ...
Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany tinyxl... on miles, I get to be a Frankfurter for a day, staying at the airport Sheraton. Thankfully they have a room ready for me when I arrive at about 6am, so I am able to settle in and continue the nap that was so rudely interrupted on the airplane.
I force myself out of bed at noon (which is still 5am Chicago time), and get cracking on making this a productive day. Newsletter emailed (check), new calendar of ...
We had to stop in Frankfurt for a day to connect to Egypt. It seemed funny to us that in order to get from southern Africa to northern Africa we had to fly to Europe, but we made the most of it!
It was strange to be back in the cold northern hemisphere, and even stranger to see them preparing for Christmas! We were in one of the cute squares as they delivered and put up a giant Christmas tree. We sat outside at a long ...

Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany martartuOk, Day 1 & 2 kind of run together for me so here it is! Day 1: Boarded a nervewracking little jet in Shreveport and you could feel every ounce of turbulence on the hour and a half ride. Got to Atlanta, GA where we waited for another hour, boarded a plane only to sit there for 45 minutes before they told us there was a problem with the fuel line. We then had to get off, go across the terminal to wait for two hours for another plane. Finally ...
Frankfurt, Germany nealyhl... once the 3 of us landed in Frankfurt. We had to spend a whole night at the airport because the other group of students in the programme would only reach Frankfurt the next morning. So it ended up, 3 of us, plus another guy, spent the night at Frankfurt Airport. Well, to some people this may sound perfectly fine, but to me, it's rather unusual cos I'm someone who would organise things ...
Frankfurt, Germany skaghillie... I could make a short call with someone else's Handy. I asked one woman and she tried to help, but was unsuccessful. I then asked a couple who had been sitting next to me and I KNEW that she had a Handy and I politely explain the situation. She said to be "Aber das geht nicht". Basically a rude "no". You know what? They later sat next to me on the plane. That must have been REALLY awkward for them. I felt better.
