Palma de Mallorca

... 15 minutes away. Taxis were expensive so we opted for the $2 city bus that was convenient and went well. Not much to do there but they have an impressive cathedral and attached museum – the cathedral took over 300 years to complete so compared to that, Sagrada Familia isn't doing too badly.

After walking around the town a little – we passed on the Mallorcan royal palace, preferring instead to have a ...

The start of Sharkita's big adventure!!

And at long last we are on our way ... can't quite believe we are actually starting this journey after all the work, planning, talking .... And we know we've been to San Telmo many times before but this time it is different!! And so good to have Simon's old friends Max & Linsey onboard - after all they were really the people responsible for him ending up in Port d'Andratx to begin with.

Dancing in Palma

... out. It takes awhile to moor the yacht stern to, (the back end up against the dock) and to get out all the fenders (large air filled pads that keep the boats from rubbing up against each other and to setup the passarelle (like a long plank that is motorized with hand rails on each side). By the time we were able to go to shore we were dressed and ready. Several of the crew members had been here before so they were our guides to finding the dance clubs ...

Another idylic Hollywood set

We arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.

The #2 rated best bare beach in the world.

... cute to see. She was flirting back and he was laying on all the charm. I was cute to watch and what made it even cuter was they were nude the entire time. I think they might have gone up to the dunes to get some alone time since the disappeared for awhile.

Around 3 PM walked up off the beach to a clearing where the heli was waiting for us. It didn’t take long until we arrived at Porto Cristo.

More Beaches!

... speak no English. We have a great dinner and some nice (and inexpensive) wine. The owners are from Argentina so I discuss my trip to South America with them.

We head out to the main bar/club street. My back is killing me. Every step is painful but I try to put it out of my mind. The area along the harbor has a good café crowd but the bars are empty. We finally go into one at 12. Within 30 minutes there is a good crowd. Almost all ...

Beachs and Sun!

... SpanAir, an airline that I have no familiarity. I was able to get a $100 fair from Scandinavia to Spain during peak vacation season. The flight is fine but they charge for everything, sodas and even water. While on the flight, my PC crashed. On the reboot it asked for bootable media. Yikes! A little panic but on the next reboot, it started up fine. I am backing up photos every few days but my PC has been key for my communication, my blog, photos, info collecting … Later in ...

I got to get their earlier to see the cathedral

... Weyler at "Forn des Teatre" - quite a famous bakery for "ensaimadas con sobresada" (which is a sweet dough with boar sausage and fruits, quiet different but utterly delicious). After wandering through some side roads as the only person by far I got to some main streets where a few stores were open. Lots of tourists, and it looked like students. The Placa d'Espanya is a huge square with lots of young people. Main bus terminal, train station etc. There's lots going on here ...

Finding Demian

It surprised most of our friends, family and followers that we ended our trip on the largest of Balearic islands, Mallorca. Chance to get sun, beaches and cheap tickets were too much allure for us to say no to. We found the island or at least our part of the island to be overrun with tourists, mostly from Germany. Steve said it well when he felt we hadn't even left Germany. We didn't find any rational ground for the glut of Germany here, but it felt like in ...

my first holiday =)

i visit spain so often but I had my first trip there at the tender age of about 8 months! haha!

needless to say I can't remember that particular trip but the subsequent ones really hit the spot with me!

I love Majorca because it has something for everybody. Mad nightlife, beautiful beaches and scenery, lovely people and not as "high rise" as main land Spain.
