Rude receptionists questioning our wealth (a.k.a. can we afford to stay there and for no obvious reason) and talking shit behind our backs and laughing at us etc. highly unprofessional things. Probably gave us the worst room with a long-ish walk to there and a dangerous bathroom. Luckily it was only for a little rest before the flight.

... getting away from their wives but no other 23 year olds carrying cordless gas straighteners (elly's not mine). We went for another dip in the Rhine as it is so refreshing after a day in the sun, and now enjoying more cold German beer ( Gaffel Kolsch) from the campsite which is somehow really cheap, looking forward to more 'spectacular views' along the Rhine gorge tomorrow. Miles: 40. Campsite: 14.50 ...

... bike paths but were easy to follow if not as smooth or wide. We cycled past the Ford factory which was huge, and churning out a lot of cars by the look of things. We soon reached a very sunny Cologne and temperatures at about 35 degrees meant we were pleased to stop. We had a quick wonder round and grabbed and ice cream before heading 3 miles down to our campsite on the Rhine! Easy enough, the only issue was having to take the tandem on to a bridge which only had stairs... ...

The castle is owned by a Princess and is opened to the APT group for viewing and dinner. During the evening a pianist from the Cologne university came and played. It was a great evening!

On Saturday, June 20th, we left Maastricht and headed to Cologne, Germany right over the boarder for the Taylor Swift concert that night. Although I have been on German highways before, I was previously near the Austrian Alps where there is a definite speed limit. However, this drive was the first time I experienced a section of the Aurobahn with no speed limit and we got up to 136 mph. We got into town around 11am and decided ...

... ask one of the waiters if he knows how to get to Joe. The waiter doesn't speak english, so I get a random dude to translate the conversation. After a while, the waiter understands me - and out of nowhere - he pulls out the keys to the apartment! Kind of a fluke... :) The apartment is awesome by the way. Later, Gustav came and we went out for a few beers. Düsseldorf seems like a really cool ...
