Street Parade in Zurich is awesome

I had never thought of travelling to Zurich only to take part in the Street Parade. But back in 2008 some friends wanted me to go there and I did not regret it. It is a real special parade with many friendly people in a very nice city near the Lake Zurich. The central station was also decorated and used for the party, and during night time the big station hall became one of the largest dancing clubs in the world. I can only tell people to go there and enjoy the great ambiance!
What a city...

... there and gave the name for the reservation, the guy at the desk politely informed me that I was about 4 hours late. When I told him I had had some problems with the train from Brussels he promptly informed me that trains going to, or leaving from Switzerland would always leave, to the minute, when they are supposed to. He then asked to see my watch, and set it to his watch, which of course was set to the watch clocks. Very prompt indeed.

Switzerland

Just a day trip to see this old city. Lots of brightly painted buildings with ornate oriel windows. Most of the windows were carved with scenes or fancy designs, sometimes painted, sometimes both. Lots of fountains and statues. Found a chocolate shop and pigged out.

first stop Zurich

Our first stop on this trip is Zurich, Switzerland. My self imposed mission was to buy some Swiss chocolate. I know Becca loves that Swiss chocolate that you can buy at Borders; 70+% cocoa. So I had to get some good stuff for her. After finally finding it, I remembered that chocolate and nursing don't mix. Oh well, maybe she can save it for a year or so! I was in Zurich with Boris and Joseph. We took the train into downtown ...

Zürich

Well, and in the end of our journey, we've visited the largest city in Switzerland, Zürich. The city is Switzerland's main commercial and cultural centre (the political capital of Switzerland being Bern ), and is widely considered to be one of the world's global cities . According to several surveys in 2006 and 2007, Zürich was named the city with the "best quality of life" in the world.

Back into Switzerland

My return to Wollishoffen started with Andrew mediating for me at the rail station as I spoke to the OBB about possible travel plans. The journey turned out to be a 2 hour wait followed by three trains. The first train went from Innsbruck to Feldkirch, a border town but still Austrian. A slam door local train but my luggage was carried on and off by a party of Zürchers. The next train was also a local journey ...

Lucerne

... through the old part of Lucerne, with its narrow, winding streets was such a treat. Turn each corner and surprise! There are two more streets…which way to go? We had lunch at a small outdoor cafe. I had goulachsuppe mit brot. (goulash soup with bread). It was delicious!

I was able to get off by myself and take more pictures while she strolled around and gawked (her word) at the beautifully decorated building ...
