Stopover

It was sooooo cold in Frankfurt, we didn't want to spend much time here since we had no winter clothing. WE got in late, went to our hotel, then back to the airport to get our flight to Bangkok moved up. We though it would be at 8 that night, but they managed to get us on the next flight out, which was pretty much within the hour. Woohooo! I also kept speaking Italian in Germany... so confused with all the languages.

I am such an amateur ....

... returns and I was allowed to enter the holding pen. This very different from the US. You cannot enter the "waiting area" near the gate until the ticket agents open the area and you make it through the proces mentioned above. Then you sit and wait an hour while ticket agents random check your bag sizes trying to force you to "check" the carry on. Then you line up in the same non-orderly fashion to board another cold bus ride to the ...

Dinner with Nadine and Flo

They Said:

We arrived in Frankfurt to some more wet weather, and we headed to a hotel a few blocks away that we had seen online. It was in the middle of the red light district, but it was suitable and close to the train station. After we checked in, we found a phone to call Nadine and Flo. Nadine is a cousin of Chad's brother-in-law, and Flo is her boyfriend.

They met us at the train station in two separate cars and drove us back to their ...

FIrst Stamp in my new passport!

... I just had to walk off the plane, show my passport and collect my bag. I got the very first stamp in my new passport!

Having the train station attached to the airport made everything very convenient for me. I got my Eurail Pass validated, booked by overnight train to Rome and I was all set to go! Arriving at the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (Main station) brought back some good and maybe not so good memories from following the World Cup in 2006. Ha ha ha ...

We made it

... went on our hot and sticky way. We got to the Palace where we had to put on some of their cloths because the ones we were wearing were not appropriate. Turns out that when we hired our clothes, we then had to pay 350 B each to see inside the Palace and we though, 'screw this' and headed back to our hostel. When we got back to the hostel we checked Facebook and emails before we headed off to the other side of the world. "Elliot's in Germany, that's weird" .... maybe he updated his face ...

Right Back Where I Started From!

... decided (or more appropriately, am being led) to go. I am going right back where all this started. You may be asking yourself how? I'm in Europe and not in Alberta. Something I am getting use to doing, especially after having read something in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, is not spending too much time fretting over decisions or in the getting of information. If the right decision or information I require is not obvious, all I do is wait and the "correct ...

Frankfurt Book Fair

... Non-fiction, and Art books. We saw books from German, Austrian, Swiss, and other European publishers. The "international" publishers (including the USA and UK) were on 5 floors in three other halls. There were huge displays with elaborate graphics, many chairs and tables, and various kinds of food, as well as smaller exhibits with just a table, a few chairs, and a few books. Right at the front of the hall was a red double-decker bus from Peterson-books.com (get name right ...
