Historical Traveler Reviews of Aquila Elounda Village Agios Nikolaos

Impeccable, exactement ce que nous recherchions !

from nanivelle

Wonderful, peaceful hotel

We stayed in Elounda Village for 2 weeks. The hotel is really pretty and has a wonderful garden, plus a fantastic view of the coast. The Mirabello restaurant (where you have to pay extra for food) is very good, the main restaurant for breakfast and dinner ist ok. The food there was plenty but not much variety, however, the quality was ok. The hotel has a quiet atmosphere, I wouldn´t suggest it for families with children as they haven´t got a lot to do there (beach very small). The distance to the main road and bus station is about 900 meters, up a steep hill, so nothing for people with walking dissabilities. The service is good and the people are very friendly. As of this year the hotel has a sauna (wasn´t finished yet while we were there) and a so called fitness room which however was very dissapointing and nothing for somebody interested in doing some workout in a gym. There was some animation program in the morning for gymnastics and in the evening there was a little bar music. The town of Elounda is about 5 kilometers distance and there you find all sorts of shops and taverns. Prices in the hotel for drinks were ok, beer 3,80 Euro, bottle of water the same. The beach bar has snacks and there is a little supermarket next to the hotel. The guests were mostly Germans, Russians and French. When we stayed there the hotel was not yet fully booked so lines at the morning and evening buffet were ok - this might change in the high season. The hotel is definitely recommendable for people who look for a quiet holiday and a place which is not the usual tourist hotel.

Great place to go for families with small children

We stayed in this top class hotel during the last week of June. It was perfect because it was still rather quiet due to the fact that the summer school holiday had not started yet. We were there with our daughter (3 years old at the time). We took a family bungalow which was great - very spacious with 2 big rooms, t.v., airconditioning and a beautiful view from the balcony. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and evening buffets were delicious - lots of choice. there were 3 pools on different levels which were all very nice and lots of olive trees and pine trees and beautiful gardens all around. The beach was nice - but rather small - perfect for small children though as the bay was easy to watch over and the water was calm there. There were some evening programmes - but all in all it is a calm resort hotel - not really for people who want alot of enterntainment but rather just relaxing and having a calm week with good service, food and great setting. Perfect for families with small pre-school children. We loved it.

Beautiful hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
For me, Elounda is the most beautiful place on Crete and this hotel is at the right place!

The Mirabello Bay is a very quiet place but it was what we were searching for. Rest and enjoy the sun and the sea...

The view from the hotel on the bay is wonderful!

The hotel itself is beautiful, many little "houses" everywhere with big gardens, many flowers...

The pools and the beach are clean and there are always free sunbeds.

The staff is kind, smiling and efficient, especially the housekeepers (flowers for me everyday on my bed) and the reception (very smiling).

The breakfast is excellent but I can't say the same for the diner. It was good but not excellent and not enough choices. This is the only bad point I can tell.

I'll come back!! No doubts about it!!

Will be back!

Just back from the best holiday ever. This is our fourth visit to Crete but first to the area of Elounda. Much of the hotel has been recently rennovated and is due to be completely rennovated by next season. The main restaurant serves an excellent breakfast which is available until 12.30. The dinner is not great but this is made up for by the other restaurant the Mirabello which looks out onto the sea and has live music each night (except Monday). Our room was compact with a 6 foot bed and a breathtaking view. The bathroom was spacious and modern and the room was cleaned every day with sheets changed very regularly. They even supplied beach towels.

The staff were courteous, professional without being over friendly. The clientele were made up mostly of Germans (but there were still enough sunbeds). There was also entertainment in the bar most evenings but this hotel is not for the late-nighters - everyone is in bed by 11.30pm! This hotel is suitable for couples - not children! who are looking for a quite, romantic and relaxing holiday. It is not suitable for people with walking difficulties as the complex is built on many levels. Looking forward to booking again next year!

Dissapointment

from telis
the only thing that was good was breakfast time!the food was excellent and the service too.the room was very modern, nice furnitures, the bathroom not what you expect from such hotel-small with very few amenities.the aircondition unit was out of order(!)we asked for a fan or to change room but we they seemed not to care enough so we had to remain to our sauna room!the a-la carterestaurant had no atmosphere it was rather a tavern than a restaurant you suppose to find in a resort like this.the beach was very small and the sand was like mud.around the pools were many lastic sanbeds that destroyed the sinery-in my opinion the sanbeds should be wooden. the bar was too small and you didn't feel like to have a drink.it was a bad choise or us.iy isn't an elouda-style hotel.don't expect much, just chose anoter accomodation!

It's the details that count.

Elounda Village was a gem. First time staying at a Grecotel and I was impressed with all the attention to details that made the holiday very comfortable. From the basket of fruit, wine and bottled water awaiting our arrival in our room to the plug in mozzy device and ice cubes in the fridge. Reception was very rustic in appearance rather than plush but our garden room certainly made up for it. It was very contemporary in design with bleached wood, white linens and artfully draped nettings and scatter cushions in various patterns of blue. The bathroom was modern with limestone tiling and raised white hand basin. Another plus were the turquoise pool towels replaced every second day. The staff were excellent, always polite and smiling. Everyone greeted you whether it was a cleaner, porter, waitress or management which was a nice touch. It never appeared crowded although the hotel was full and there were always sunbeds available. The pools were clean and the little beach made an interesting change with its sandy shore and surrounding rocks and cliffs. There is a dive centre based at the beach and water sports too. Food was good - variety and quality. Guests included Germans, Dutch, French, Greeks and British. Everyone seemed able to speak English. A lovely place to visit.

Grecotel

from Gulliver077
We have just returned from a 2 week stay in the Grecotel at Elounda. As a frequent traveller to other Greek island resorts, I can recommend this as a very comfortable, friendly hotel with good facilities and serves good (but not top) quality food. Most of the hotels' accomodations are laid out in villas which are comfortable and well maintained but not very spacious - nonetheless they are a better choice than the rooms in the main hotel. The Grecotel has five swimming pools some of which are, predictibly, very small. It also has a private beach in a harbour-type environment which is very safe for kids but is again quite small. I would recommended this hotel - especially to families with small children.
