... stores and some clothing stores. We managed to find a shop where I could buy a shirt that looked a little more 'formal' so at least I wouldn't disgrace myself at the 'cruise elegant' dinner in a couple of days. Back on board the ship Maggie's friend Enjenay (not sure of the spelling) joined us for dinner. These two are now inseparable and stay out very late playing music at the O2 club (for 15-17 year olds) and eating pizza and ice cream at all ...

Over 20 years ago, we had vacationed on Curacao with Debbie's brother. There was little need to explore the island again - there wasn't a lot to see in a week with a rental car then, so we concentrated on touring Willemstaad on foot in the few hours available this time.

Willemstaad is larger than Oranjestaad, and Curacao is more developed, benefitting from oil deposits. Still, we found moving a few ...

I watched the island slowly passing before the window as we pulled into port, not a palm tree or fluffy white sand beach to be seen; rather the industrial smoke stacks churning out gray filth...hmmm, could this be the same place I’ve read about with “pastel hued, gingerbread buildings lining the waterfront”? Thankfully, it is. That version of the island just happens to be on the starboard side of the ship as we pull in.

... that when the birds are slaughtered their bones are dried and bleached and used by an artist. Also on the property is a crocodile pond, and the crocs are fed the remains that cannot be eaten by humans. If you're extremely adventurous, you can actually ride an ostrich; however, after the explanation of the "ride" all of us opted not to. We did, however, get to feed the ostrich.

It is a very quaint Dutch harbor city, with lots of brightly painted, historic buildings downtown, and along the waterfronts. There are two forts on either side of the entrance to the harbor.
