... friend that Anne did not "die," but was killed, and only because she was a Jewish girl, who had hurt no one; and Emma Thompson's reminder (from a speech given at the museum) that Anne's "would-have-beens" are our challenges and our opportunities. Sorry for all the heaviness, but since racism and other isms still haunt our world, it was a sobering tour stop that I feel privileged to have been able to make. Last night was a traditional Dutch meal... Wiener schnitzel. Only thing missing was the shrimp cocktail starter and we could have been in a NZ hotel restaurant thirty years ago. ... time there. In the very pretty and sunny afternoon, we took a canal boat around the city and learned a bit about canal construction. Great to be outdoors and seated after lots of museum time! After this we walked to a flower market, a long block of shops selling every kind of bulb and seed imaginable, including Dutch cannabis seeds. (No, we are not bringing any home.) Amsterdam is a stately city, full of historic buildings well preserved. There are ...

Actually, this title is deceiving since it was a rainless day, unlike the day before where it seemed to lightly rain continuously. We were prepared for it; however, and the temperature was mild. We started the day by hopping on a tram and buying 24 passes to help our feet which put on many steps the day before. We travelled to the Anne Frank museum where 8 ...
